DESCRIPTION:
2x12" Downbeat Electronica, Downtempo, Ambient, Psy-Trance LP- The long-awaited fourth album by Younger Brother: Mutually Assured Distraction.

The first full-length release by the fabled electronica project in a decade features nine sumptuous tracks that each embody the project’s intoxicating fusion of profoundly human sonorities and etheric electronic soundscapes.

The title is a subversive reframing of the Cold War doctrine “Mutually Assured Destruction,” pointing to a world currently frozen not by the geopolitical threat of a Nuclear Winter but by a Digital Summer of mindless overstimulation. Mutually Assured Distraction is a sonic salve for the pervasive numbness induced by an emotionally disconnective artificiality that seeks to pacify with counterfeit happiness; the album offers an antidote to mundane superficiality with nine musical masterpieces that convey the depth of human experience and authentic creative expression.

The progression of track titles symbolically represents the arc of this soulful journey through an evocative auditory landscape of moods, harmonies, and textures, progressing from the haunting opening “I Belong to Nowhere” to the penultimate “Home In This World” before arriving at the concluding “Endless Drift.”

The synthesised musical mastery of renegade musicians Simon Posford and Benji Vaughan is complemented by the contributions of some supremely skilful musicians, with beguiling vocals by MiraBelle Rose and Jay Marsh and the rich cello of Rena Jones. With poignant lyrics that speak to the universal human condition in a world where voices are amplified yet so many feel unheard, Mutually Assured Distraction provides, through its fusion of electronic and real-world music- making, an example of how technology can pair harmoniously with our humanity - an energetic homecoming as the music draws us away from the unconscious scroll into an open field where we can embody our essential nature.

The album stands as both a reflection of our times and a timeless reminder that beneath the noise, a deeper presence continually exists, waiting to be felt, heard, and expressed.

Last FM Information on Younger Brother

Please note the information is done on a artist keyword match and data is provided by LastFM.
Younger Brother was formed by Simon Posford (Hallucinogen, Shpongle) and Benji Vaughan (Prometheus, The Zap!) in 2002. The name "Younger Brother" is inspired by an indigenous Colombian tribe called The Kogi, for whom the band wrote their first song. The Kogi refer to themselves as "Elder Brothers" and the people of western civilisations as "Younger Brothers." The debut album A Flock of Bleeps released on Posford's Twisted Records in 2003 has taken on cult status in the underground electronica scenes around the world. The duo has since then been drawing crowds in the thousands from London to Tokyo, New York to Australia. Their second album, The Last Days Of Gravity was released in October 2007 on Twisted Records. This album narrowly missed out on a mercury prize nomination in 2008 when it was voted 19th ( the top 12 are nominated). Since the release of The Last Days Of Gravity the band have been touring the world with a five piece band. At the moment it comprises Ru Campbell on vocals, Marc Brownstein on Bass, Tommy Hamilton on guitar and Joe Russo on Drums. In November 2008 the full band convened at Assault and Battery studios in north London, UK, to commence recording of their third album. By recording with a full band Younger brother have propelled their music to a new level. This would eventually result in their third studio LP 'Vaccine', released on April 11, 2011. This added Ruu Campbell as a member. With his vocal presence permeating the LP, they forged out what is now known as one of their signature cuts, 'Train'. On April 30, 2014, they released 'Vaccine Electronic', their fourth studio LP, serving as a self-made remix package to Vaccine. The record has more of an electronica focus and was made to appeal to Hallucinogen fans, and/or fans of 'A Flock of Bleeps'. On May 1, 2026, they released 'Mutually Assured Distraction', their fifth studio LP. Read more on Last.fm.
