DESCRIPTION:
Abstract Indie Rock Ambient - Inc Enhanced Digital Version on DVD.

Compare Spirit of Eden with any other previous release in the Talk Talk catalog, and it's almost impossible to believe it's the work of the same band -- exchanging electronics for live, organic sounds and rejecting structure in favor of mood and atmosphere, the album is an unprecedented breakthrough, a musical and emotional catharsis of immense power. Mark Hollis' songs exist far outside of the pop idiom, drawing instead on ambient textures, jazz-like arrangements, and avant-garde accents; for all of their intricacy and delicate beauty, compositions like "Inheritance" and "I Believe in You" also possess an elemental strength -- Hollis' oblique lyrics speak to themes of loss and redemption with understated grace, and his hauntingly poignant vocals evoke wrenching spiritual turmoil tempered with unflagging hope. A singular musical experience.

Talk Talk were an English band formed in 1981 by Mark Hollis (vocals, guitar, piano), Lee Harris (drums), Paul Webb (bass), and Simon Brenner (keyboards). The band initially performed as a synth-pop group, and their first two albums, "The Party's Over" (1982) and "It's My Life" (1984), reached the top 40 in the UK and produced international singles including "Talk Talk", "Today", "It's My Life", and "Such a Shame". The band's third album, "The Colour of Spring" (1986), brought widespread critical acclaim in the UK and across Europe, with singles such as "Life's What You Make It" and "Living in Another World". Their 1988 album, "Spirit of Eden", marked a shift toward a more experimental sound influenced by jazz and improvisation, helping to pioneer what later became known as post-rock. While "Spirit of Eden" received critical praise, it was less successful commercially. Disputes with their label, EMI, led to legal action, and following Paul Webb's departure, Talk Talk moved to Polydor for their final studio album, "Laughing Stock" (1991), before disbanding. Mark Hollis released a solo album in 1998 and subsequently retired from the music industry; he died in 2019. Paul Webb and Lee Harris collaborated in several other projects, including .O.rang, while long-term collaborator Tim Friese-Greene continued working in music as a producer and musician.
