4 Tracks - 4 Artists - Nu-disco, Funk Soul with DAve Lee on The Remix Dutiies - Dave Lee presents an EP of brand new slap bass heavy tracks for this exclusive vinyl release. Slapping the bass string hard with the thumb to create a twanging sound is a technique developed by Sly & the Family Stone’s Larry Graham in the early 70s. It’s been used by the likes of Stanley Clarke, Mark King, Marcus Miller and the worlds greatest bass players ever since. All the tracks on the Slap Around The Bass EP feature the legendary UK bassist Julian Crampton (Incognito, Down to the Bone, Sunburst Band) who delivers some serious Slap, Pop and Funk to the proceedings.
From the opening Earth Wind and Fire esque ‘Magnificent Mango’ by The Sunburst Band featuring Xan Blacq, through to Bah Samba’s conscious lyrics, Brit funk style ‘Save Our Freedom’ and finishing off with the boogie synth fuellee ‘In the Mood’ by Foreal People the whole EP is laced with killer live bass lines.
Expect some serious air slap bass moments on the dancefloor.

Veteran UK electronic producer Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro) is one of the few people who can glide effortlessly from the chilly depths of the “underground” to the moneyfied glitz of commercial music, while keeping both his dignity and his wide-ranging fan-base intact. Having moved on recently from the cool ad-friendly, chill-out throb of his Jakatta moniker, Dave has embarked upon a series of production projects including developing and producing new electro- rockers The Like Me’s due to release their first album at the end of this year. Alongside this, the ever prolific Mr Lee, has also regrouped with his supa- talented muso mates to form London’s latest nu-funk and boogie hybrid, The Sunburst Band. With members culled from the funkiest ends of Incognito, Jamiroquai and the Kyoto Jazz Massive, The Sunburst Band is unashamedly musical.
Members: Dave Lee, Julian Crampton, Michele Chiavarini, Thomas Dyani-Akuru, Tony Remy

Last FM Information on Bah Samba

Early 1996, Julian Bendall, Kevin Alexanda & Geoff Holroyd (surnames initialing 'Bah'), formed a loose group, to play live & record - whilst experimenting with fusions of traditional musicianship, dance & modern recording techniques, at Midi. The result was their début single, Carnival (the same year, on Loaded). Then, Alice Russell's voice was heard, floating over the garden wall & contact was made, by knocking on the door - to borrow a casserole dish. Alice's voice fitted well, with the direction they were taking & was first realised with "Reach Inside" (Spring '97). Featured on the Dimitri from Paris mix album in 2000 and named as his favourite band, it shows the longevity of the bands sound in an ever increasingly disposable scene. Read more on Last.fm.
