DESCRIPTION:
The track that helped bring rap from the block party to the global stage gets a fresh new official remix, courtesy of Greg Wilson & Che Wilson. This limited 140g double-sided 12" pairs the brand-new rework with the legendary 14-minute original, preserving the Sugarhill label's classic artwork for maximum vintage appeal. Originally released in 1979, 'Rapper's Delight' is widely credited as the first rap single to achieve major mainstream success, opening the door for artists like Run-D.M.C., LL Cool J and, later, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z and Nas. Built around Bernard Edwards' iconic Chic bassline, it blends disco's infectious groove with a pioneering flow that still feels effortlessly smooth over four decades later. The influence on the culture was immediate and irreversible. The Wilson & Wilson remix respectfully extends and reframes the original's party-starting energy, giving DJs and dancers a fresh way to experience its rhythmic magic. This song remains a cornerstone of rap history. To have the original along side a remix done 45 years later shows the lasting impact this track still has.

The Sugarhill Gang is an American hip-hop group, known mostly for one hit, Rapper's Delight, the first hip-hop single to become a Top 40 hit. The track uses the bass line from Good Times as its foundation. The members, all from New York City, called themselves Wonder Mike, Big Bank Hank, and Master Gee. They were assembled into a group by producer Sylvia Robinson who also founded Sugar Hill Records along with her husband and record mogul Joe Robinson. The Sugarhill Gang were little known at the time, and were controversially accused of stealing the inspiration and lyrics from a well-known fellow rap artist, Grandmaster Caz. Ironically, "Rapper's Delight" inspired another one hit wonder, "The Ketchup Song" and also, a Brazilian rapper called Gabriel o Pensador made his own lyrics over the "Rapper's Delight" song, with 2345meia78.
