DESCRIPTION:
Hip Hop, R&B , Gospel & Grime - limited Clear Vinyl 2xLP (indie exclusive) Version

With his newest outing 'This Is What I Mean', it's clear Sormzy has significantly developed from platinum debut 'Gang Signs & Prayer' and even ascended his follow-up 'Heavy Is The Head' in both incendiary prose and dynamic drive. While there are elements of classic british grime in the mix (and at some points it's more classic than others), there is an orchestral intensity and untethered creativity that could only have come from the man himself, effortlessly spanning soul and funk, with more than a toe in moern R&B. 'Hide & Seek' in particular flips the script a little, featuring some of his most melodic work to date with lounge keys and infrequent electronic percussion propping up the undeniably talented vocal performances and falling somewhere between the familiar lounging groove of his less scathing pieces and the fiery grime beats of olde.

Stormzy's strength has always been centred around his ability to inject a conversational familiarity into the most note-perfect performance, coming across as both intensely honest and self-effacingly funny while remaining unfalteringly skilled and in-the-moment. This is possibly the most noticeable on 'This Is What I Mean', surpassing his previous outings in cinematic scope, and conceptual intensity. An important release, undoubtedly but most of all a *really* great listen. 'There's a Lot To The Vibe' he sings, hitting the nail on the head once again and cementing his place in music history.

Stormzy has risen up from being one of the baddest underground mic men on the streets of London to pretty much being a national treasure all before he is thirty. He is a grime pin-up who has helped establish the genre on the world stage but who has also moved on from it in recent times. He has proven himself to be as able to open his heart and sing tender tones as spit about spats with Wiley. His dazzling wordsmithery, unrestrained attacks on the British government and support from disadvantaged young Black people have made him the voice of a generation and we are lucky to have him. This new album finds him opening his heart and being more honest and vulnerable than ever.

Michael Omari (born 26 July 1993), better known by his stage name Stormzy, is a British rapper, singer and songwriter. In 2014, he gained attention on the UK underground music scene through his Wicked Skengman series of freestyles over classic grime beats. He won Best Grime Act at the 2014 and 2015 MOBO Awards and was named as an artist to look out for in the BBC's influential Sound of 2015 list. His most successful song to date is the BPI gold-selling "Shut Up", which was initially released as a freestyle on YouTube. The track was then officially released and got to number eight on the UK Singles Chart after Stormzy launched a campaign to reach Christmas number one. His debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer, was released on 24 February 2017, and was the first grime album to reach number one on the UK Albums Chart and won British Album of the Year at the 2018 Brit Awards. In 2019, Stormzy achieved his first UK number-one single with "Vossi Bop" and his headline appearance at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival was widely praised; he wore a Union Jack stab vest designed by Banksy, in light of the rise in knife crime in London. His second album, Heavy Is the Head, was released on 13 December 2019. On 22 September 2022, Stormzy released the single "Mel Made Me Do It" accompanied by an 11-minute music video featuring popular artists, actors and sports figures such as Usain Bolt and José Mourinho. He returned to social media on 12 October 2022 to announce his third album This Is What I Mean, which was recorded on Osea Island in England. It was released on 25 November 2022. The first single to be released was titled "Hide & Seek" on 14 October 2022. Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr. was born on 26 July 1993 in Croydon, London. His mother is Ghanaian, his father was a taxi driver and he is a cousin of rapper Nadia Rose. He grew up in South Norwood, London, with his mother, brother, and two sisters. Stormzy did not come from a particularly musical household, although he liked music. He attended Stanley Tech South Norwood. He began rapping at the age of 11 and would clash with older rappers at his local youth club. Read more on Last.fm.
