The 12-track LP - featuring SG Lewis, Confidence Man, TS Graye, Dan Whitlam, ARY, “Norwegian pop witch” Moyka, and Barry Can’t Swim affiliate just lil - explores letting go in a world that can often feel overwhelming. “A million ideas turned into a few, a few turned into no ideas at all, and no ideas eventually turned into one” says Jakobsson of the album, which he began the week his acclaimed 2021 record Mirrors was released. “Through writing it, I’ve tried to turn long-held anxieties into acceptance, and I hope listeners can take their own meaning from it”.
Under his now familiar DJ Seinfeld alias, Armand Jakobsson has proved adept at delivering emotive, melody-rich, atmospheric and frequently nostalgic electronic dance music that defies easy categorisation. He continues in this vein on vivid and carefully constructed third album If This It, which Jakobsson has amusingly described as "a million ideas turned into a few, a few into no ideas at all, and no ideas eventually turned into one". Of course, it's far, far better than that self-deprecating and tongue-in-cheek answers, with the guest-heavy track list including rolling future club anthems (the Confidence Man-sporting, UKG-influenced sing-along 'The Right'), deep and dreamy mid-tempo breaks ('U Can't Come Home'), string-laden house melancholia ('If This Is It'), deep two-step ('O Joy', 'Everything U') and bouncy futurism ('The Wave').
