Emerging from the depths of Tasmania are Allan McConnell and Finn Rees who are known for their electrifying fusion of house, soul and jazz and their signature dense synths and driving basslines. Currently based in Melbourne, Australia, the duo's infectious, uplifting array of dance tunes has earned them support from Giles Peterson (BBC Radio 6), triple j, KCRW, FBi Radio, SYN, 3RRR, plus tastemaker outlets Indie Shuffle, Pilerats, The Burning Ear, Hillydilly, Kick Kick Snare, Stoney Roads and The Sound You Need. The duo’s EP, “Refractions” was released last year under The Kite String Tangle’s record label Exist Recordings and garnered praise from blogs, DSP and radio alike from the wider triple j and unearthed team, with Tommy Faith stamping his seal of approval on their single “HEY!!!” noting that ‘Kaytra(nada) would be proud to call this an original’. Since their humble beginnings, Close Counters have relentlessly hit the road across Australia and on their recent run of date in support of their “Refractions” Vinyl Release, the pair sold out 2 x shows at stalwart venue The Night Cat, after a breakout performance at Meredith Festival in December. The group have also supported the likes of Shaggy, Roland Tings and Tall Black Guy to name a very select few and played multiple festival dates including Splendour in the Grass, Falls Festival, Strawberry Fields, MONA FOMA, Party in the Paddock, plus showcases at EMC and BIGSOUND.
