It all started in the spring of 1997 when Detroit native Matthew Chicoine, aka Recloose, made contact with techno pioneer Carl Craig by way of a legendary ‘demo-on-rye sandwich’. This fateful meeting led to the signing of Recloose to Craig’s seminal Planet E label and the birth of an eclectic and vibrant musical career. Recloose’s musical roots trace back to eight years of studying music and playing jazz saxophone, later shifting his focus to the art of collecting and mixing vinyl while at the University of Michigan. His eclectic DJ sets, which were first heard on Ann Arbor’s WCBN, have led him to become an in-demand DJ, playing at clubs and festivals around the world as well as performing as a turntablist for both Carl Craig’s Innerzone Orchestra and the more esoteric Uri Caine ensemble. Over his fifteen year career Recloose has developed into a true standout of Detroit’s musical litter. To date he has released a number of groundbreaking 12”s for Planet E and Rush Hour, a host of remixes for the likes of Funkadelic, Herbert, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Tei Towa, Dennis Coffey, MJ Cole and Azymuth, a live album, and three full-length LPs debuting with ‘Cardiology’‚ on Planet E / !K7 in 2002, greeted with wide critical acclaim. Recloose relocated to New Zealand in 2001 to plant new roots and explore fresh musical horizons. 2005 saw the release of Recloose’s second LP, ‘Hiatus On The Horizon’ (Peacefrog/Loop), an album that features a host of New Zealand’s finest musicians and vocalists (and spawned the dancefloor stomper ‘Dust’ featuring Fat Freddy’s vocalist Joe Dukie). This was followed in 2006 by the Recloose Live Band’s funk compendium ‘Backwards and Sideways’, recorded live at the San Francisco Bathhouse and released on Recloose’s on-off imprint ‘Fingertips’ in early 2007. Recloose’s 2008 international long player, ‘Perfect Timing’, features yet more stellar New Zealand talent (including Tyna Keelan, Rachel Fraser, Joe Dukie, Jonathan Crayford) and took out the prestigious Tui Award (aka NZ Music Award) for best Electronica/Dance album of 2008. In 2010 Recloose teamed up with long time musical comrades Rush Hour records to release “Early Works”, a retrospective collection of standout and lost material from his days in Detroit. Since then he has been continued to release a number of ambitious 12″s on Rush Hour and Delusions of Grandeur. In 2009 Recloose launched his Hit It & Quit It radio show, broadcasting with broadcast partner Frank Booker every Monday from Auckland’s George FM and quickly growing the show into one of the highest rating on the station. In 2010 Recloose took up residence at Auckland’s Music and Audio Institute of New Zealand to set up and deliver a full-time DJ and Electronic Music Production (DJEMP) programme, now rotating between teaching and securing his masters degree at the University of Auckland. The space goddess of funk Saucy Lady is a force to be reckoned with. Since her 2011 debut album “Diversify”, this Boston-based vocalist, song writer, and DJ has released over 70 singles and remixes of her original music, mostly in vinyl formats that have sold out within weeks of release. Saucy Lady’s music has been featured on the soundtrack of Netflix Original Series, "On the Block”, Tiffany & Co.'s global campaign on their new jewelry line. Her original tracks can be found off the Chicago-based label Star Creature Universal Vibrations, Midnight Riot, Soul Clap Records, Dopeness Galore, Street Muzik, Kadokawa, Toho, or through her own label Audio Chemists Recordings. With the mission to empower all humankind with her space-age groove, she has been traveling the globe to share her musical selections as a DJ including the UK, Germany, France, Japan, and US from coast to coast. She specializes in spinning Soul, Funk, Boogie, Disco, Jazz Funk, Hip Hop and R&B records. Saucy Lady’s sophomore album LP “Supanova” launched in April 2019 through Star Creature records. "Supanova" offers listeners a full sensory-experience with layers of highly intricate vocal stacks over jazz funk, b-boy breaks, and cosmic synths. In June 2019, Star Creature released the 7 inch vinyl versions of "Alien Nation" and "Orbit" tracks from the album featuring J-Zone on drums. July 2019 the album was released in Japan only as a CD format from Disk Union label. In 2020 Soul Clap Records released “Check Me Out”, a collaborative track with the German boogie crew First Touch on 7” vinyl. While Saucy released multiple original tunes from her Audio Chemists label, she also collaborated with Boston’s own DJ/Producer GMGN in releasing “It’s Time” off Toucan Records with Remixes by Disco DJ legend Lenny Fontana and Boston’s Studebaker Hawk. In 2021, Star Creature Records released her EP “Delirious” on 12” vinyl and in the first week, marked “best seller” on Bandcamp on multiple genres. The "In-Depth" look Musical Background Having a father who is a fanatical jazz record collector, she was surrounded by music 24/7 since infancy. Trained in classical piano since age of 5, and classical voice since she was 12 years old, she received a solid training and foundation in music. As she grew up, her musical interests spread beyond the world of jazz and classical music. Her love for other musical genres, such as Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Funk, Boogie, Disco, Rare Groove grew to become a passion. Her training and exposure to a variety of music led her to pursue her studies as a music major at Mount Holyoke College. At Mount Holyoke, she was a radio DJ and an Urban Music Director at WMHC 91.5FM, while taking off-campus courses on music production. During these college years, she worked for musical promotional companies and worked as an Intern at Jive Records in NYC. After college, she received her Master's degree in Library Science from Simmons College, and took on professional positions as a Music Librarian at the Boston Public Library, and at The Boston Conservatory. During her spare time, she sang in a 6-piece cappella group and multiple Boston-area choruses such as the Boston Cecilia, Back Bay Chorale, Chorus Pro Musica, and sung in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Fenway Park, Sanders Theatre, Jordan Hall, , Hatch Shell, Ozawa Hall, and Symphony Hall. DJing, song writing, recording and performing with live bands became a natural fit. She created "Saucy Lady" as her alter-ego character and began pursuing these fields with passion and vigor. Saucy's character exudes an attitude of confidence and sensuality that naturally echoes into her music. Saucy Lady brings back the eclectic, outrageous fashion and cultural diversity that composed the nightclub scenes in the 70s and 80s. She represents the freedom of self-expression and experimentation witnessed in the disco era. Just as significant, she adds in an element of humor into her stage presentation that is often missing in our ego-driven "diva" trend in female soloists. Known to her peers now as the "Beantown Disco Queen", Saucy Lady has been working as a vocalist, song writer, and DJ sharing her a diverse musical range. With her alter ego character exuding an attitude of confidence and sensuality, these senses naturally echo into her music. Saucy Lady brings back the eclectic, outrageous fashion and cultural diversity that composed the nightclub scenes in the 70s and 80s. She represents the freedom of self-expression and experimentation witnessed in the disco era while also representing an element of humor into her stage presentation. Recordings and Collaborations Saucy Lady has collaborated with numerous artists around the globe including K-Maxx, E-Live, Throwback Zack, Soul Clap, Inkswel, Rahaan, T-Groove, First Touch, Lord Funk, Adam Chini, Yam Who?, UnoMas, Ourra, Kan Sano, JKriv, Shiro Schwarz, to name a few. She has received accolades from globally recognized DJs, producers and artists for her works. Her debut album "Diversify" that released in 2011 fully produced by the Japan-native multi-instrumentalist Yuki "monolog" Kanesaka brought her center stage into the modern funk game. "Touch It", one of the dance tracks off the album was remixed by Chicago's renowned DJ/Producer Rahaan and released by Dopeness Galore on 12" vinyl the following year. Distributed by Rush Hour, this release exposed her globally into the dance club scene. Due to increased demand, the album "Diversify" was re-released in 2014 on Monophonic of Kadokawa in Japan as a major label release with added new bonus tracks. Bonus tracks feature raw and intricate new remixes by celebrated producers J-Zone, Slakah the Beatchild and Rahaan. In 2015, the Chicago label Star Creature Universal Vibrations took notice of the disco diva and released on 7" vinyl an original House tune "On the Floor" with the flip side being a boogie-disco remake of the Beatles classic, "Help!". The release was quickly sold out and made #1 best seller for Funk genre on Bandcamp. Star Creature released 3 additional 7" records featuring Saucy Lady in 2016. The releases includes remixes by T-Groove of her and Yuki Kanesaka's original tracks "I'm Ready" and "Sugar High" that have sold out within first month of release. Reissues are now available but industry tip is not to sleep on any of Star Creature releases! In 2016, Street Muzik, a label owned and operated by Chicago's DJ/Producer Rahaan released "Emotions". This original track produced by Yuki Kanesaka features Rahaan's own extended mix and instrumental on 12" vinyl. With numerous releases digitally, a few to note is her collaborative work with Yam Who? of Midnight Riot and ISM Records on "Magic Dust" and a cheeky remake of "Nasty Girl" by UnoMas. In fact, Star Creature caught the "Magic Dust" and plans to sprinkle the universe with a 7" physical release in Spring of 2018. E. Live also did a remix on the track, and another recent collaboration with E-Live who composed a remix of her original track "Together" was released on 12" vinyl in 2017 via Boogie Cafe Records. Off Soul Clap Records "Dancing On the Charles Vol. 4" compilation album released in May 2017, you will find Saucy Lady and U-KEY (Yuki Kanesaka)'s most recent collaborative original work "For What?", featuring a funk house vibe sampling the sounds of the city of Boston. Saucy Lady has been establishing her own music label, Audio Chemists Recordings . The label released the debut EP of "Alternate Universe" by the Boston based live band, Princess Problems. Saucy's own Honey Sauce Band was also released with remixes of "Boy Toy" by Yuki Kanesaka, E-Live, and Ourra, featuring solos by Sven Attleton and Kan Sano. The most recent release off her own label is the 7" vinyl featuring remakes of classic Japanese throwback tunes by Tatsuro Yamashita and the late Enka pop sensation Misora Hibari. The covers "Amaku Kiken Na Kaori" and "Makka Na Taiyo" are sung in Japanese, her native language and feature the grandson of the original composer, guitarist Yuma Hara. In 2018, she released her Japanese boogie covers on 12" vinyl via Cultures of Soul, as well as a 7" single "It's All here". Her new space-concept full-length album, "Supanova" released in April 2019 through Star Creature Universal Vibrations.
