DESCRIPTION:
Heavyweight Vinyl Repress with MP3 Download Poster & Postcard- On its release in 1975 Wish You Were here topped the album charts in both the UK and the US. Reflecting the bands thoughts of the time on the music business, and exploring themes of absence, Pink Floyd followed the commercial breakthrough of Dark Side of the Moon with Wish You Were Here, a loose concept album about and dedicated to their founding member Syd Barrett. The record unfolds gradually, as the jazzy textures of "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" reveal its melodic motif, and in its leisurely pace, the album shows itself to be a warmer record than its predecessor. Musically, it's arguably even more impressive, showcasing the group's interplay and David Gilmour's solos in particular. And while it's short on actual songs, the long, winding soundscapes are constantly enthralling.

Pink Floyd are an English rock band formed in London in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar, vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals) and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals), with David Gilmour (guitar, vocals) joining at the end of 1967. Gaining an early following as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were distinguished by their extended compositions, sonic experiments, philosophical lyrics, and elaborate live performances, and became a leading progressive rock band. With Barrett as the principal songwriter, Pink Floyd released the singles "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play" and the debut studio album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" in 1967. David Gilmour joined the band later that year as guitarist and vocalist, and Barrett departed in 1968 due to mental health issues. All four remaining members contributed material, though Waters became the main lyricist and conceptual leader, developing the ideas behind the albums "The Dark Side of the Moon" (1973), "Wish You Were Here" (1975), "Animals" (1977), and "The Wall" (1979). The film "Pink Floyd The Wall" (1982), based on the album, received two BAFTA Awards. The band also produced several film scores. Internal tensions led to Wright leaving in 1981 and Waters in 1985. Gilmour and Mason continued as Pink Floyd, later joined again by Wright. They recorded the studio albums "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" (1987) and "The Division Bell" (1994), each supported by major tours. In 2005, Gilmour, Mason, and Wright reunited with Waters for a performance at the Live 8 event. Barrett died in 2006 and Wright in 2008. The final studio album, "The Endless River" (2014), was assembled from unreleased recordings made during the sessions for "The Division Bell." In 2022, Pink Floyd released the song "Hey, Hey, Rise Up!" in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. By 2013, Pink Floyd had sold over 250 million records worldwide. "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and are among the best-selling albums in history. Four of the band’s albums topped the US Billboard 200, and five reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. Although primarily an album-focused group, they achieved several successful singles, including "Arnold Layne," "See Emily Play," "Money," "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)," "Not Now John," "On the Turning Away," and "High Hopes." Pink Floyd were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2008, they received the Polar Music Prize for their long-term influence on the integration of art and music in popular culture.
