DESCRIPTION:
2xLP Classic Rock LP Remastered on Heavyweight 180g Vinyl - One of the most acclaimed concept albums of all time, The Wall from 1979 is renowned as Roger Waters’ masterpiece dealing with abandonment and personal isolation. Adapted for cinema by Alan Parker featuring Bob Geldof in the lead role, and featuring the unique artwork of Gerald Scarfe the album also yielded the hit single Another Brick In The Wall Pt2.

The Wall was Roger Waters' crowning accomplishment in Pink Floyd. It documented the rise and fall of a rock star (named Pink Floyd), based on Waters' own experiences and the tendencies he'd observed in people around him. By then, the bassist had firm control of the group's direction, working mostly alongside David Gilmour and bringing in producer Bob Ezrin as an outside collaborator. Drummer Nick Mason was barely involved, while keyboardist Rick Wright seemed to be completely out of the picture. Still, The Wall was a mighty, sprawling affair, featuring 26 songs with vocals: nearly as many as all previous

Last FM Information on Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd are an English rock band formed in London in 1965 by Syd Barrett (guitar, vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals) and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals), with David Gilmour (guitar, vocals) joining at the end of 1967. Gaining an early following as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were distinguished by their extended compositions, sonic experiments, philosophical lyrics, and elaborate live performances, and became a leading progressive rock band. With Barrett as the principal songwriter, Pink Floyd released the singles "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play" and the debut studio album "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" in 1967. David Gilmour joined the band later that year as guitarist and vocalist, and Barrett departed in 1968 due to mental health issues. All four remaining members contributed material, though Waters became the main lyricist and conceptual leader, developing the ideas behind the albums "The Dark Side of the Moon" (1973), "Wish You Were Here" (1975), "Animals" (1977), and "The Wall" (1979). The film "Pink Floyd The Wall" (1982), based on the album, received two BAFTA Awards. The band also produced several film scores. Internal tensions led to Wright leaving in 1981 and Waters in 1985. Gilmour and Mason continued as Pink Floyd, later joined again by Wright. They recorded the studio albums "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" (1987) and "The Division Bell" (1994), each supported by major tours. In 2005, Gilmour, Mason, and Wright reunited with Waters for a performance at the Live 8 event. Barrett died in 2006 and Wright in 2008. The final studio album, "The Endless River" (2014), was assembled from unreleased recordings made during the sessions for "The Division Bell." In 2022, Pink Floyd released the song "Hey, Hey, Rise Up!" in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. By 2013, Pink Floyd had sold over 250 million records worldwide. "The Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wall" were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and are among the best-selling albums in history. Four of the band’s albums topped the US Billboard 200, and five reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. Although primarily an album-focused group, they achieved several successful singles, including "Arnold Layne," "See Emily Play," "Money," "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)," "Not Now John," "On the Turning Away," and "High Hopes." Pink Floyd were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. In 2008, they received the Polar Music Prize for their long-term influence on the integration of art and music in popular culture.
