DESCRIPTION:
Vopcal Hooked Drum N BAss Collaboration - Indie Only Release-Bass bringers Overmono link up with d&b veteran High Contrast for a wicked Welsh border crossing, 'If We Ever', a tough reimagining born of vinyl fanaticism and Cymru petrichor. A kinda-remix of 'Tough Guys Can't Dance' by the latter d&b artist, Overmono update the anthem through a taut, retextured approach, swearing by a shared niche of record shop pilgrimages and box-digging at Cardiff's own Catapult Records, where High Contrast used to work. It's a rare case of Overmono doing drum & bass at all, just for fun; the track is a beautiful tease too, giving and taking the piano-synth scourged amen drop after a longed-out, beatless intake of breath at the minute mark.

Overmono, brothers Tom and Ed Russell, are celebrating their biggest summer yet with their reimagining of High Contrast's legendary drum 'n' bass anthem "If We Ever." First performed during their headline set at Love Saves The Day, the track quickly went viral after their Glastonbury performance, racking up millions of views on TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, along with countless fan comments demanding its release. Even High Contrast took notice of the wave of enthusiasm and contacted the Russell brothers. By the time they played Boomtown, it was clear: this song isn't just the festival anthem of 2025, but will resonate in clubs and on dance floors long after the summer is over.

Overmono are the two brothers Ed Russel (Tessela) and Tom Russel (Truss, MPIA3). Under their respective artist names Truss and Tessela, they have forged formidable individual reputations as producers. Defining tracks such as Truss’ ‘Kymin Lea’ and ‘Beacon’ and Tessela’s ‘Rough 2’ and ‘Hackney Parrot’ for the likes of R&S, Perc Trax, and their own Poly Kicks label, have encapsulated so much of what is exciting and vital in UK underground, electronic music. Their collaborative project Overmono sees Tom and Ed come together on record for the first time. In their own words: "Despite doing some live shows together and the fact that we’re brothers, we hadn’t ever really written music together and wanted to start something new. We decided to head to a remote cottage in rural Wales, near to where we grew up. The trip ended up being the most creative stint either of us had ever had and after a week we had the foundations for Overmono." Read more on Last.fm. As a winner of the Essential Mix of the Year 2007 on BBC's Radio 1, the name High Contrast needs no introduction, although when a young Lincoln Barrett signed on the dotted line back in 2000 he was a complete unknown. Signed on the strength of his mini-disc demos, the Welsh wonder has smashed his way through the Drum & Bass scene in no time at all. His debut longplayer "True Colours" was released on Hospital to massive critical acclaim in June 2002, paving the way for a move onto the outernational DJ circuit and remixer of choice for many labels inside and outside of the Drum & Bass community. It was the club sessions and mixing skills that dominated the year following the release of "True Colours" - with Lincoln making a name for himself as one of the hottest Drum & Bass DJs around. In autumn 2004 he dropped the massive "High Society" LP, featuring the anthemic singles "Twilights Last Gleaming" and "Racing Green". The album has already become the stuff of legend, with Knowledge Magazine voting it into their top 3 jungle albums of the last 10 years. More recently after reaching Drum & Bass superstardom he has released mix albums for Fabric and Mixmag and seen his White Stripes remix all over Radio 1. Missy Elliot and Blaze have also come knocking for a Contrast remix and the world's dance floors have been blown apart by that Gold Digger booty. 2007 saw the High Contrast success story continue, with the single "If We Ever" getting play on Radio One, followed by arguably his finest album yet - "Tough Guys Don’t Dance". Rounding the year off with yet another huge remix – this time for Axwell’s Ibizan anthem "I Found You". As we speak, he’s back on the road taking his brand of widescreen jungle soul to the people. "All killer no filler" says IDJ Magazine. Go catch some Contrast and see that they are spot on! High Contrast released a new album in 2007. The album "Tough Guys Don't Dance" was released on October 1, 2007 in the US. The single "Pink Flamingos" has gotten multiple plays on Sirius' Boombox (a.k.a. Channel 34). The album also has a mixed/mashed up version of Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". Lincoln was born in Penarth, Wales and started his career in 2000 Read more on Last.fm.
