George Herbert Evelyn (born 15 January 1970), known professionally as Nightmares on Wax or DJ E.A.S.E., is an English DJ and record producer from Leeds. His music has primarily been released on Warp Records, and he is currently based in Ibiza. Nightmares on Wax began as a group, initially comprising Evelyn and John Halnon, and later including Kevin Harper.
Evelyn was introduced to soul music by his father and sister, including artists such as Quincy Jones and Curtis Mayfield, and later developed an interest in early hip hop tracks like "Rapper's Delight" and "Buffalo Gals".
Nightmares on Wax was formed in 1988 as a collaborative project with Halnon and subsequently Harper. The group’s debut studio album, "A Word of Science: The First and Final Chapter", was released on Warp Records in 1991. Following this release, Harper left to focus on DJing, while Robin Taylor-Firth became a frequent collaborator with Evelyn.
The second Warp album, "Smokers Delight" (1995), was later ranked number 15 on Fact magazine’s list of the "50 Best Trip-Hop Albums of All Time". Subsequent studio albums include "Carboot Soul" (1999), "Mind Elevation" (2002), "In a Space Outta Sound" (2006), "Thought So" (2008), "Feelin' Good" (2013), "Shape the Future" (2018), and "Shout Out! To Freedom..." (2021). In 2005, Evelyn founded his own record label, Wax On.
