Sir Robert Bryson Hall II (born January 22, 1990), known by his stage name Logic, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Logic grew up in Gaithersburg, Maryland, and developed an interest in music as a teenager. He began his musical career in early 2009 when he released Logic: The Mixtape under the name "Psychological", and in 2010 released the mixtape Young, Broke & Infamous. He signed with the label Visionary Music Group, and subsequently released three more mixtapes over the next three years.
His fourth mixtape, Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever, received many positive reviews and allowed him to sign a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings. In October 2014, Logic released his debut studio album, Under Pressure, which reached number four on the US Billboard 200 chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA after selling over 171,000 copies. His second studio album, The Incredible True Story, was released in November 2015 and received widespread critical acclaim. This album also earned Gold certification in the US, selling over 185,000 copies. In 2016, Logic released his fifth mixtape, Bobby Tarantino.
Logic’s third studio album, Everybody, was his first to reach number one in the US, with 247,000 album-equivalent units, including 196,000 pure sales. The album featured his first international hit as a lead artist – 1-800-273-8255, which peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100.
On February 23, 2018, Logic released the single 44 More, as a sequel to 44 Bars from the 2016 mixtape Bobby Tarantino. The song peaked at number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100. Four days later, on February 27, he released the single Overnight, and on March 2, the single Everyday with producer Marshmello. On March 7, Logic announced his sixth mixtape, Bobby Tarantino II, via a promotional video featuring Rick and Morty from the Adult Swim series. The mixtape was released on March 9, 2018, through Def Jam and Visionary Music Group, and featured guest appearances from 2 Chainz, Big Sean, and Wiz Khalifa. On March 30, Logic appeared in the premiere episode of the Netflix documentary series Rapture.
On September 28, 2018, Logic released his fourth studio album, YSIV. Prior to its release, three singles came out: One Day with Ryan Tedder, The Return, and Everybody Dies. The album includes the track Wu Tang Forever, featuring all living members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
On March 16, 2019, Logic published his debut novel, Supermarket, through Simon & Schuster. The book was first hinted at on the cover of the 2016 mixtape Bobby Tarantino. The novel was accompanied by his fifth studio album, which was experimental and featured less rap and more influences from classic rock and indie. Since then, Logic has announced he is working on two more novels – one in the science fiction genre and the other about bank robberies.
On July 24, 2020, Logic released No Pressure, his sixth studio album, which was announced as his final one at the time. On July 16, Logic tweeted that he was retiring from music to focus on fatherhood. The album featured 15 tracks with a total length of 59 minutes and 48 seconds. Its release came shortly after Logic signed a multi-million-dollar deal with the streaming platform Twitch.
On July 30, 2021, Logic released his seventh mixtape, Bobby Tarantino III, after returning to music in June 2021 and releasing several promotional singles.
In 2022, Logic released several singles ahead of his eighth and final album under Def Jam – Vinyl Days. The album was well-received, garnering surprisingly positive reactions even from critics who had previously been unimpressed with his work.
After releasing four instrumental mixtapes under the stage name Peanuts, Logic announced his ninth studio album – College Park, which was released on February 24, 2023. The album tells the story of his rise to fame in Maryland and features appearances by his close friends.
Logic formed a rap group called halfBREED with his longtime friend C Dot Castro. The two released the EP 3P on April 11, 2023.
On August 9, 2024, Logic released his highly anticipated ninth studio album, Ultra 85, which received positive feedback from both fans and critics.
