DESCRIPTION:
Rock LP Repressed on Heavyweight Vinyl - Created at a time of intense turmoil for Led Zeppelin -- they scrapped a planned international tour in the wake of Robert Plant's car accident in Greece in August 1975 --

Presence is a strange, misshapen beast of a record that pulls upon its own tension. With Plant somewhat on the sidelines -- he recorded many of the vocals while in a wheelchair -- Jimmy Page reasserted himself as the primary creative force in the band, helping steer Presence toward a guitar-heavy complexity, perched halfway between a return to roots and unfettered prog. This dichotomy means it feels like Presence sprawls as wildly as Physical Graffiti even though it's half its length: the four epics tend to overshadow the trio of lean rockers that really do hark back to the Chess boogie and rockabilly that informed Zeppelin's earliest work. Each of these three -- "Royal Orleans," "Candy Store Rock," "Hots on for Nowhere" -- plays as snappily as the throwaways on the second half of Physical Graffiti, containing a sexy insouciance; the band almost seems to shrug off how catchy Page's riffs and how thick the grooves of John Bonham and John Paul Jones actually are. No matter how much fun this triptych is, they're lost underneath the shadow of "Achilles Last Stand," a ten-minute exercise in self-styled moody majesty and the turgid blues crawl of closer "Tea for One." In between, there are two unalloyed masterpieces that channel all of the pain of the period into cinematic drama: a molten blues called "Nobody's Fault But Mine" and "For Your Life," as sharp, cinematic, and pained as Zeppelin ever were. Added together, Presence winds up as something less than the sum of its parts but its imbalance also means that it's a record worth revisiting; it seems different upon each revisit and is always compelling.

Last FM Information on Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group consisted of Robert Plant on vocals, Jimmy Page on guitar, John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards, and John Bonham on drums. Known for a heavy, guitar-based sound that drew from blues and folk traditions, they are widely regarded as a major influence on the development of hard rock and heavy metal. They became one of the best-selling music artists in history and helped shape album-oriented rock and stadium rock. The band evolved from the Yardbirds and initially performed under the name the New Yardbirds. After signing with Atlantic Records, they were granted significant artistic control. Although early critical reception was mixed, their commercial success grew rapidly with eight studio albums released over ten years. Their debut album, "Led Zeppelin" (1969), reached the top ten in several countries and included tracks such as "Good Times Bad Times," "Dazed and Confused," and "Communication Breakdown." "Led Zeppelin II" (1969), their first album to reach number one, featured "Whole Lotta Love" and "Ramble On." "Led Zeppelin III" (1970) opened with "Immigrant Song." Their untitled fourth album, commonly known as "Led Zeppelin IV" (1971), became one of the best-selling albums of all time and included "Black Dog," "Rock and Roll," and "Stairway to Heaven." "Houses of the Holy" (1993) included "The Song Remains the Same" and "The Rain Song," while the double album "Physical Graffiti" (1975) featured "Trampled Under Foot" and "Kashmir." Page composed most of the band's music, while Plant wrote most of the lyrics. Jones made notable contributions, especially in the keyboard-focused arrangements of their later work. The second half of their career was marked by record-breaking tours and a reputation for excess. Despite continued commercial success, their activity slowed in the late 1970s, during which they released "Presence" (1976) and "In Through the Out Door" (1979). Following Bonham's death in 1980, the band disbanded. The surviving members reunited for select performances, including the 2007 Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert with Jason Bonham on drums. Led Zeppelin are estimated to have sold between 200 and 300 million records worldwide. They achieved eight consecutive number-one albums in the United Kingdom and six number-one albums on the US Billboard 200, with five albums certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America. Rolling Stone described them as the heaviest band of all time, the biggest band of the seventies, and one of the most enduring groups in rock history. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, where they were credited as being as influential in the 1970s as the Beatles were in the 1960s.
