Khaled Mohammed Khaled, known professionally as DJ Khaled, is an American DJ and record producer. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Palestinian immigrant parents, he initially gained recognition as a radio host in the 1990s for Miami's 99 Jamz. He later joined Fat Joe's hip hop collective, Terror Squad, as a DJ for live performances and as a producer for the group. Khaled became known for collaborating with high-profile artists on his singles and albums, often serving as producer and hype man, and is noted for his distinctive voice, motivational expressions, maximalist production style, and catchphrases.
Khaled released his debut studio album, "Listennn... the Album," in 2006, followed by "We the Best" (2007), which included the hit single "I'm So Hood" featuring T-Pain, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, and Plies. His subsequent albums, "We Global" (2008) and "Victory" (2010), both reached the top ten of the Billboard 200, with "Victory" featuring the single "All I Do Is Win" (featuring T-Pain, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, and Rick Ross), certified triple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.
His fifth album, "We the Best Forever" (2011), brought his first Billboard Hot 100 top-ten single, "I'm on One" (featuring Drake, Rick Ross, and Lil Wayne). Following albums—"Kiss the Ring" (2012), "Suffering from Success" (2013), and "I Changed a Lot" (2015)—received moderate critical and commercial response. Increased public recognition through social media and Internet memes preceded the release of "Major Key" (2016), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards.
"Grateful" (2017) became Khaled's second consecutive number-one album, supported by the singles "I'm the One" (featuring Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, and Lil Wayne) and "Wild Thoughts" (featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller). "Father of Asahd" (2019) included "Higher" (featuring Nipsey Hussle and John Legend), earning Khaled his first Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Performance. His twelfth and thirteenth albums, "Khaled Khaled" (2021) and "God Did" (2022), both debuted atop the Billboard 200, with the latter's title track receiving three nominations at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards. He is scheduled to release his fourteenth studio album, "Aalam of God," in 2025.
Outside music, Khaled has written the book "The Keys," which appeared on the New York Times Best Seller list, and acted in films including "Bad Boys for Life" (2020), "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" (2024), and the animated film "Spies in Disguise" (2019). His record label, We the Best Music Group, formed in 2008, has distributed his releases and signed artists such as Ace Hood, Kent Jones, Mavado, Flipp Dinero, and Vado.
