Iron Maiden's World Slavery Tour was one of the longest and most extensive tours ever undertaken by a rock band. Lasting from August 9, 1984, to July 5, 1985, and visiting such countries as Poland, Austria, Hungry, Yugoslavia, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Scotland, England, Germany, Sweden, Canada, Japan, and the U.S., the show included a mammoth setup that replicated the intricate ancient Egyptian scenery of the Powerslave album cover. As a "thank you" to the hundreds of thousands of fans who packed arenas the world over, the double-disc live set Live After Death was issued in 1985. Disc one is comprised of selections from a four-night stand at L.A.'s Long Beach Arena, with disc two comprised of performances from London's Hammersmith Odeon. The album is essentially a best-of of sorts, since most of their singles released up to this point are featured in all of their high-decibel glory: "

Iron Maiden are an English heavy metal band formed in Leyton, East London, in 1975 by bassist and primary songwriter Steve Harris. Although the lineup changed several times in the early years, it has remained stable for most of the band’s history with Harris, lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson, drummer Nicko McBrain, and guitarists Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, and Janick Gers. As pioneers of the new wave of British heavy metal movement, Iron Maiden achieved significant commercial success with a series of albums certified Platinum and Gold in the UK and the US. Their early releases include the debut album "Iron Maiden" (1980), "Killers" (1981), and "The Number of the Beast" (1982), the latter being their first album with Dickinson, who replaced Paul Di’Anno as lead vocalist. "The Number of the Beast" became one of the best-selling and most influential heavy metal albums, with worldwide sales of nearly 20 million copies. Following lineup changes and a period of transition in the 1990s, the return of Bruce Dickinson and Adrian Smith in 1999 marked a resurgence in the band’s popularity. Subsequent releases such as "The Final Frontier" (2010), "The Book of Souls" (2015), and "Senjutsu" (2021) reached number one in more than 25 countries. Iron Maiden have sold over 130 million albums globally and have earned more than 600 certifications. They are regarded as one of the most influential and enduring heavy metal bands, having received multiple awards, including Grammy and Brit Awards. The band’s discography includes 41 albums: 17 studio albums, 13 live albums, four EPs, and seven compilations. They have also released 47 singles, 20 video albums, and two video games. Iron Maiden’s lyrics frequently explore themes such as history, literature, mythology, war, fantasy, science fiction, religion, and social commentary. As of 2019, the band had performed approximately 2,500 live shows. Their mascot, Eddie, has appeared on nearly all of their album and single covers and has become one of the most recognizable figures in heavy metal culture.
