It was 1993 when Insight last released on the iconic Strictly Rhythm imprint. Terrestrial Funk brings you their first fresh output in three decades. Perfect house productions hot on the heels of their highly acclaimed V4 Visions comp on Numero Group. The four track EP gives you three unique house cuts with Ashaye’s ethereal vocals and an unreleased dubbed out downtempo version of their beloved anthem, ‘What Is This World Coming To?’.
Originally emerging from the UK scene and known for their 1993 output on Strictly Rhythm, the group reappear here with three fresh house tracks and one unreleased downtempo dub, all steeped in the warmth and spirit of that golden era. 'Starry Eyed' and 'Spring' combine tactile keys with swinging, classic drums, while Ashaye's vocal lines weave emotional clarity through each groove. The previously unheard 'Na Mix' of 'What Is This World Coming To?' flips the tempo, stretching things into a dubbed-out meditation that slows the pulse without losing intensity. 'Here We Go Again' rounds things off with a shuffling rhythm that lands somewhere between warehouse and sun-drenched terrace. Insight was Salt Lake's first major straightedge hardcore act. Their passionate lyrics of drug-free ethics and animal rights consciousness set the stage for outspoken SLC bands to come, from Lifeless to Cherem. Formed in the late '80s, the band released two 7" records, Standing Strong (Soulforce Records) and What Will It Take (Victory Records' Release), before disbanding in the early '90s. Insight tracks also appeared on Victory's Only the Strong and Victory Singles: Volume 1 compilations as well as the classic Voice of Thousands comp which featured early material from Integrity and Outspoken.
Drummer Chad Smith went on to play with Salt Lake band Iceburn (Victory, Revelation). Bassist Doug Wright played in early formations of Iceburn and now plays with New York City rock band The Dirty Pearls. Guitarist Jeremy Chatelain went on to play with Iceburn, Handsome (alongside Tom Capone of Bold & Quicksand) and Jets to Brazil (alongside Blake of Jawbreaker). He is currently doing a country-pop project called Cub Country.
