DESCRIPTION:
Indie Rock LP from On Heavyweightg Vinyl In Gatefold Sleeve - Imagine Dragons give away the plot with the very title of Evolve, the 2017 sequel to 2015's sophomore set, Smoke + Mirrors.

Not content to stay in one emotional or musical spot, Imagine Dragons consciously move forward on Evolve, pushing themselves into a positive place, a transition that mirrors lead singer Dan Reynolds working through a heavy depression. Some of that darkness seeped into Smoke + Mirrors, but it's not heard here. Opening with "I Don't Know Why," a glitzy dance-rock song that nods at a disco past but exists in an EDM present, the record often rides along to a neon pulse. It's not that Imagine Dragons have abandoned the heavy-footed stomp they patented on "Radioactive," but they've threaded in busy, percolating electronic beats and give plenty of space to gilded keyboards. When the tempo is quick, the results are festival-friendly electro-rockers.

When the tempo is slow, the results feel like a hybrid of Coldplay and Mr. Mister -- power rock ballads spiked with laser drums. As throwback as that sensibility may be, the band strives to be thoroughly modern, emphasizing rhythms and gargantuan hooks to tightly constructed compositions. Whenever the group tries a new sound -- pumping up "Mouth of the River" with fuzz guitars or attempting a bit of rap-rock on "Start Over" -- it feels not like experimentation but like a quick scan through a new music playlist. And that means Evolve feels very much like the digital Zeitgeist of 2017: good intentions aside, its bold, colorful textures elbow aside any notions of introspection or reflection

Imagine Dragons is an American pop rock band formed in 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The group currently consists of lead singer Dan Reynolds, guitarist Wayne Sermon, and bassist Ben McKee. Their debut single, "It’s Time", was released in February 2012 and reached the top 20 of several international charts. Their debut album, "Night Visions", released in September 2012, produced the singles "Radioactive" and "Demons" and reached number two on the United States charts. The album achieved platinum sales status by June 2013. "Radioactive" set a record for the most weeks charted on the Billboard Hot 100, and was described by Rolling Stone as the biggest rock hit of the year. MTV referred to the band as the year’s biggest breakout act, and Billboard named them its Breakthrough Band of 2013 and Biggest Band of 2017, while placing them first in its Year in Rock rankings for 2013, 2017, and 2018. The band also topped Billboard’s year-end Top Artists – Duo/Group category in 2018. Their second studio album, "Smoke + Mirrors" (2015), reached number one in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It was followed by "Evolve" (2017), which produced the singles "Believer", "Thunder", and "Whatever It Takes". These releases contributed to the band achieving the most cumulative weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart at the time, and the album reached the top five in multiple countries. The fourth studio album, "Origins" (2018), included the single "Natural", which became their fifth chart-topping song on the same chart. Later releases include the double album "Mercury – Acts 1 & 2" (2022), featuring the United States top-five single "Enemy", and "Loom" (2024), their first album recorded without longtime drummer Daniel Platzman. While commercially successful, the band’s music has received varied critical responses. Imagine Dragons has received several industry awards, including three American Music Awards, nine Billboard Music Awards, one Grammy Award, one MTV Video Music Award, and one World Music Award. In May 2014, the group received 14 nominations at the Billboard Music Awards, including Top Artist of the Year and the Milestone Award, which recognizes innovation and creativity across genres. In April 2018, they received a further 11 nominations at the same awards. The band has sold more than 74 million albums and 65 million digital songs worldwide, and their recordings have accumulated approximately 160 billion streams across platforms. They were the most streamed group on Spotify in 2018 and became the first rock act to have four songs, "Radioactive", "Demons", "Believer", and "Thunder", each surpass one billion streams. They are also the only group in Recording Industry Association of America history to have four songs certified above diamond level. According to Billboard, "Believer", "Thunder", and "Radioactive" were the three best-performing rock songs of the 2010s.
