The Hives launched the first salvo in their global assault on all that is lame in our culture with their debut album, 1997's Barely Legal, and there is little arguing that these guys had the right idea out of the gate. Emerging from Fagersta, Sweden (which, at least in 1997, was the rock equivalent of Absolutely Nowhere), the Hives set a high standard with their hot-wired fusion of garage rock tunes and punk rock speed and energy, and they hit the sweet spot just right, sounding tight enough to connect with unified force while still letting the frenzy of their forward momentum give the performances a bit of dizzy sway that indicates true rock & roll. If Barely Legal lacks an obvious "breakout hit" tune like "Main Offender" or "Hate to Say I Told You So," the rapid-fire assault of these songs is impressive indeed, and this disc plays like a brick of firecrackers that refuses to stop ex

Last FM Information on The Hives

Please note the information is done on a artist keyword match and data is provided by LastFM.
The Hives are a rock band from Fagersta, Sweden, formed in 1993. They gained recognition in their home country during the 1990s and achieved international success in the early 2000s as part of the garage rock revival movement. The band's original lineup included vocalist Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Nicholaus Arson, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Vigilante Carlstroem, bassist Dr. Matt Destruction, and drummer Chris Dangerous. This lineup remained stable until 2013, when Dr. Matt Destruction stepped down for health reasons and was succeeded by The Johan and Only, formerly of the band Randy. The Hives have released six studio albums: "Barely Legal" (1997), "Veni Vidi Vicious" (2000), "Tyrannosaurus Hives" (2004), "The Black and White Album" (2007), "Lex Hives" (2012), and "The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons" (2023). Their discography also includes the compilation album "Your New Favourite Band" (2001), the live DVD "Tussles in Brussels" (2005), and the live album "Live at Third Man Records" (2020). Their commercial breakthrough came with "Veni Vidi Vicious", particularly the single "Hate to Say I Told You So", which has become closely associated with the band. The Hives are recognized for their coordinated black-and-white stage attire and their dynamic live performances, which have received acclaim from music critics and audiences.
