DESCRIPTION:
2017 Indie Pop, Dream Pop Rock LP Repressed - Many bands promising uniqueness write a bum cheque. Her’s, not only offer individuality, distinctiveness and originality, but an entire world brimming with fully realised characters and sounds. Where romance fades, bromance remains and like a pair of matching monogrammed bathrobes hanging side-by-side, it’s rare to find a partnership so loveably kitsch and destined to belong together as Stephen and Audun

Stories and characters emerge throughout the collection, revealing an off-kilter world of atmospheric slacker pop, instilled with voyeuristic humour. A collection of all their early singles, and a few new tracks thrown in for good measure, Her’s channel the surreal and the sublime through a twist of tropical technicolour. Each song its own little microcosm of oddness. Intricately windy, bendy guitars are flung around a tight drum machine clatter to deliver a genuine indie classic.

Her’s were a Liverpool-based dream pop duo formed in the mid-2010s, known for their soft-focus guitar textures, understated grooves, and quietly emotional songwriting. The band consisted of Stephen Fitzpatrick (vocals, guitar) and Audun Laading (bass, backing vocals). Fitzpatrick, from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, and Laading, originally from Norway, met while studying in Liverpool. Coming from different countries and coastal towns, the pair bonded over shared humor, introspective observation, and a mutual affection for gentle, melodic pop music. Their sound drew from indie pop, dream pop, and lo-fi aesthetics, marked by clean guitar lines, relaxed bass rhythms, and lyrics that captured fleeting emotions, nostalgia, and romantic uncertainty. Her’s began releasing early demos and singles in the mid-2010s, gradually building an international following through online platforms and word of mouth. In May 2017, they released Songs of Her’s, a compilation album collecting their early tracks, which introduced listeners to their signature warmth and understated charm. Songs such as “Dorothy” and “What Once Was” helped establish the duo as distinctive voices within modern dream pop. The band released their debut studio album, Invitation to Her’s, in August 2018. The album was widely praised for its cohesion, melodic subtlety, and emotional sincerity, further cementing Her’s reputation for crafting intimate, softly glowing songs. Tracks like “Harvey” and “Manners” became fan favorites, celebrated for their gentle arrangements and conversational lyricism. While touring the United States in support of Invitation to Her’s, tragedy struck. On 27 March 2019, Fitzpatrick and Laading, along with their tour manager Trevor Engelbrektson, were killed in a car accident. The loss sent shockwaves through the global music community, with fans and fellow musicians alike paying tribute to the duo’s kindness, humility, and artistic promise. Despite their brief career, Her’s left behind a body of work that continues to resonate. Their music remains cherished for its softness, emotional honesty, and timeless simplicity, ensuring that Her’s legacy endures as one of modern dream pop’s most tender and affecting stories.
