Ltd 7" Release of 2 Funk Soul & Nu-Disco Cuts - While the identity of scalpel-wielding re-editor Guest remains under wraps, the producer continues to offer periodic blasts of cannily reworked gems, mostly on the seven-inch based 'Mini Edits' series. On their second missive of 2025, the shadowy artist once again provides classy, scalpel style arrangements with added remastering and the lightest use of effects. A-side 'Passion Play' is a tidy revision of a breathy, string-laden slab of jazz-funk/disco fusion marked out by rubbery bass guitar, twinkling instrumentation, and a deliciously extended, mix-friendly drum-break midway through. On 'Native Son', Guest successfully tampers with a synths-and-P-funk-guitar-laden, Prince style workout, concentrating more on the lolloping, slow-motion groove and heady horn blasts.
