DESCRIPTION:
Best Of LP - 8 Track - This is a re-release of the famous 'red sleeve' Fleetwood Mac Greatest Hits album. This record was a stalwart of every decent album collection in the early 1970s as it represented the first greatest hits package from Fleetwood Mac, covering the period from the band's beginning in 1968 through to 1971. Fleetwood Mac in their original incarnation were led by guitarist Peter Green and were leaders of the second British Blues boom of the late 1960s. Fleetwood Mac enjoyed several hit singles in the United Kingdom at that time and these are collated here for this album, originally issued on CBS Records only in the U.K. "Albatross" was a huge chart hit in the UK whilst the single "Black Magic Woman" helped to break Fleetwood Mac in the U.S. via a cover version by Santana, that landed in the Top Five of the Billboard Top 40. The album gatefold shows a full-size photo of the post-Green line up of the band with Christine McVie (nee Perfect), even though she just plays piano on a couple of tracks and wasn't a full-fledged member until after "Kiln House" was released.

Last FM Information on Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac were a British and American rock band formed in London in 1967 by singer and guitarist Peter Green. The band was named by combining the surnames of drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie, who joined shortly after its formation. Fleetwood Mac have sold more than 120 million records worldwide. Initially a British blues band, Fleetwood Mac achieved a UK number-one single in 1968 with the instrumental "Albatross" and had other UK top ten hits with "Man of the World," "Oh Well" (both 1969), and "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)" (1970). Green left the band in May 1970, and Christine McVie joined as an official member on vocals and keyboards two months later, having previously contributed as a session musician. Other key early members included Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, and Bob Welch. By the end of 1974, the band lacked a guitarist and male singer, leading Fleetwood to recruit the American duo Buckingham Nicks, consisting of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, in December 1974. This addition brought a more pop rock sound to the band, with their 1975 album "Fleetwood Mac" topping the Billboard 200 chart in the United States. Their next album, "Rumours" (1977), reached number one in multiple countries and won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 1978. The line-up remained stable for three more studio albums but began to change in the late 1980s. After Buckingham left in 1987, he was replaced by Billy Burnette and Rick Vito, with Vito leaving in 1990 along with Nicks. The classic 1974–1987 line-up reunited for a performance at President Bill Clinton's first inauguration in 1993 and fully reunited four years later to release the live album "The Dance" (1997), which marked the 20th anniversary of "Rumours" and the band’s 30th anniversary. Christine McVie left in 1998 but rejoined in 2014 for the "On With the Show Tour." Fleetwood Mac released their final studio album, "Say You Will," in 2003. In 2018, Buckingham was replaced by Mike Campbell and Neil Finn. Following Christine McVie’s death in 2022, Stevie Nicks expressed in 2024 that she did not believe the band would continue without her. Fleetwood Mac were honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1979, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, and received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. In 2018, they were named MusiCares Person of the Year in recognition of their artistic achievements and philanthropy.
