Elizabeth Woolridge Grant (born June 21, 1985), known professionally as Lana Del Rey, is an American singer-songwriter. Her music often explores themes of romance and nostalgia, with references to popular culture and mid-20th century Americana. She has received multiple awards, including an MTV Video Music Award, three MTV Europe Music Awards, two Brit Awards, two Billboard Women in Music awards, and a Satellite Award, along with nominations for eleven Grammy Awards and a Golden Globe Award. In 2023, Rolling Stone included her in the "200 Greatest Singers of All Time," and Rolling Stone UK recognized her as a significant contemporary American songwriter. Del Rey was raised in upstate New York and moved to New York City in 2005 to pursue a music career. She gained widespread recognition in 2011 with the single "Video Games," leading to a recording contract with Polydor and Interscope. Her second album, "Born to Die" (2012), combined a moody, hip hop-influenced sound and included the single "Summertime Sadness." The album charted internationally and, by 2023, had spent over 500 weeks on the US Billboard 200. She later achieved chart success with the albums "Ultraviolence" (2014) and "Lust for Life" (2017). Del Rey's sixth album, "Norman Fucking Rockwell!" (2019), received critical acclaim and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. It was also included in Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time." Her ninth studio album, "Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd" (2023), was supported by the single "A&W," which was recognized among the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" by Rolling Stone, and the Billboard Global 200 top-20 single "Say Yes to Heaven." Del Rey has contributed to several soundtracks and visual projects. In 2013, she wrote and starred in the musical short film "Tropico" and recorded "Young and Beautiful" for the romantic drama "The Great Gatsby," which received Grammy and Critics' Choice Award nominations. In 2014, she recorded "Once Upon a Dream" for "Maleficent" and the theme song for "Big Eyes," which received a Golden Globe nomination. In 2019, she collaborated on "Don't Call Me Angel" for "Charlie's Angels." In 2020, Del Rey published a poetry and photography collection titled "Violet Bent Backwards over the Grass.
