Watch Them Come', a 1999 jam produced by Roy Davis Junior and Jay Juniel, featuring the heavenly vocals of a then-young Peven Everett, is a genuine classic - a percussion-rich chunk of vocal deep house brilliance rich in infectious bass guitar, stretched out synth solos and twinkling electronic piano motifs. It has been remixed a few times before - Jazzanova famously reworked it, for starters - but this new edition marks its' first reissue since 2001. The brilliant original is backed by a trio of 2023 remixes: a bouncy, rubbery, drum machine -driven re-wire from Green Velvet that adds extra percussive punch and some mesmerising electronic motifs; a surprisingly tribal and sub-heavy Soul Clap revision; and a jazzy, analogue-rich Chicago house re-fix from Matt N Ricky. Roy Davis Jr. is a professional DJ specializing in house music on many different labels including Large, Ubiquity, Nice+Smooth Ultramedia and Scion.
Davis grew up in Chicago, Illinois. Davis was turned on to house music at an early age by house pioneer Lil' Louis. Davis began his own production company named Phuture in the late 1980s. In the 1990s Davis teamed with Chicago vocalist Peven Everett and recorded the hit song, "Gabriel"(Large /XL). The track garnered large amounts of airplay in radios and clubs all around the world. The single sold over 250,000 copies, and has appeared on dozens of compilations including the seminal Desert Island Mix from Gilles Peterson. [1].
