A1 - If you’re asking yourself if something can be chuggy at 128 bpm then you’re in the right place. Disco-stomping belter ploughing its way down the M20 searching for the port, then the south of France and finally Freddie’s bedroom. Don’t forget the stops for a breather.
A2 - Four films?? That’s about as insane as this edit; a swaggering, mop-topped and dubbed-out groover boasting a ph-fat flamenco freakout at its klymaxxx. Would Harvey play it? Dunno, but the bootleg variety definitely already does.
B1 - Shades of Rimini as the pianos set over another rubbery bassline and the Adriatic Sea arpeggiates its ocean spray all over the gaffe. If this ain’t heaven, we’re not sure what is.
On its first outing, new edit imprint Adventures in Paradise offers a quartet of workouts from sometime Wolf Music, Semi-Delicious and Public Possession regular Manuel Darquart. The Auckland-raised producer has focused on scalpel style reworks, rearranging and re-EQing rather than adding fresh beats and samples. He begins with 'Can't Beat Love', a string-laden, Rhodes-splashed slab of Italo-disco-meets-blue-eyed soul - proper early 80s AOR disco with a dubbed-out twist. 'Paul's Strut' sees him take the best bits of a dubbed-out Macca disco favourite from 1979 and make them even more groovy and spaced-out, while 'Now In Time' is a fine take on a dreamy, colourful and piano-splashed Balearic house gem. Darquart rounds off a fine EP via the piano solo-laden Mediterranean house jazziness of 'Massive Jazz (Paradise)'. Exquisite stuff!
B2 - Nothing like a lashing of nutritious Italo-dance slop to carb-o-load the dancefloor at its peak. Just watch as the crowd devours this Ragú of musical flavours, with elements of Disco, New Wave, Acid House and Jazz all thrown in the pot.
