Deep House & Minimal Tech - Way back in 2023, while he was still a rising star mostly known for offering up self-released gems online, Italian producer Kelbin was asked to remix Daphni's 'Cloudy' - a rework that subsequently became exceedingly popular.
Three years on, that previously digital-only revision - a gorgeous fusion of rubbery, swinging club beats, picturesque synthesiser arpeggios, his own sampled speech snippets and waves of electronic positivity - has finally made it to wax. You'll find that on side B, with the A boasting a fresh Kelbin revision of Daphni's most recent single, 'Sad Piano House'. The Italian naturally retains the dusty sampled pianos and glitchy electronics so prevalent on Daphni's original mix, wrapping them around a warped bassline and relentless, UK-garage influenced beats. 'Sad Piano Garage', then, rather than 'Sad Piano House'.
Dan had called Sad Piano House a cousin to his previous Daphni track 'Cloudy', the Kelbin remix of which had become a much beloved fan favourite. So it was only a matter of time before Kelbin, real name Favaretto, got to work on his version of Sad Piano House - a beautiful reworking marrying the heart tugging melody of the original with Kelbin's trademark razor sharp production.

1) Music project of Caribou's Dan Snaith. Daphni's debut album, Jiaolong, has been released on 8 October 2012 on Merge Records.
"During the time I was making the Caribou album Swim, I'd fallen back in love with moments in small, dark clubs when a DJ puts on a piece of music that not only can you not identify, but that until you heard it you could not have conceived of existing," Snaith said. "Daphni tracks are rough and spontaneous … They're about working fast and intuitively, capturing the manic energy needed to start a track one afternoon, have it finished, and be playing it in a club that night."
"I've been surprised by the number of transcendent moments that I, sober and in my mid-30s, have had in clubs in the last few years," Snaith said. "Set against the backdrop of bland and functional dance music there is a small world where dance music lives up to its potential to liberate, surprise and innovate. There's some magic in it still."
