4 Tracks -4 Artists OF Sundrenched House Grooves - Nu-Disco & All Round Feel Good Funky Goodness

t’s been a spellbinding last 12 months for Tropical Disco Records, dominating both the digital and vinyl charts, with a seemingly endless stream of near perfect jazz infused disco goodness. Their latest vinyl only EP ‘Tropical Disco Volume 23’ perfectly showcases that well loved Tropical disco style alongside the worldwide musical knowledge which has been the cornerstone of the label recently. Featuring both label heads Moodena and Sartorial alongside South American pairing Infrasoul and Clean Is Good it’s a perfect showcase of the labels style.

Opening up proceedings is Mexico’s Clean Is Good, another star in the making from a country which continually seems to punch well above its disco weight. ‘Christina’ has that Latin flair aplenty. Bubbling bass, club shaking drums and a real diggers classic of a Latin jazz sample all combine for what is a real party favourite in the making.

Moodena keeps that jazzy flair flowing beautifully with ‘Cotton Club’. It’s a track with a real 70’s soundtrack vibe running through its disco DNA. A celebration of all that the legendary ‘Cotton Club’ name brings to mind it’s brimming with class and grace and just a touch of playfulness. It’s a real moment of musical bliss.

Over on the flip of the 12” Sartorial gets in on the action with ‘Ancient Aliens’. This one has a real 90’s computer funk heartbeat with throbbing bass licks, powerhouse drum rolls and a funk fuelled synth bass. It’s the kind to track which will cause many a knowing head nod from DJ’s across the globe as that dancefloor fills up to overflowing as it causes scenes aplenty.

Closing out proceedings Colombian producer Infrasoul delivers yet another 70’s inspired gem. ‘Qanto Amor’ is a track which we do indeed have a whole lot of love for with its effortless brass licks delivering eupohia, while a dancefloor smash of a bassline paves the way for some of the funkiest guitar this side of the Purple one’s fabled aftershow parties. With a real smorgasbord of instruments perfectly playing off each other it’s all topped off with some satin shirt, gold pendant wearing synth goodness. Oh and did we mention the disco flute? Well how else would you close out one of the finest disco 12’s you will get your hands on this year.

Collab EPs are back in fashion, and Tropical Disco are leading their charge. The boundlessly potentiated space between disco, dance and jazz is their game, and 'Tropical Disco Volume 23' proves they can win it time and time again. Four tracks of trumpetting 4x4 glory-buzz dominate this EP. Clean Is Good wipes the floor with disco-edit edge, while Moodena comes through with a mighty mood of motor city madness, and Sartorial and Infrasoul share the B-side with a pair of broken, drum-banging and glass-shattering instrumentals. There's even a disco flute in there somewhere.

Moodena’s success over the last two years has been nothing short of prodigious. His meteoric rise to the top of both the digital and vinyl charts has all the hallmarks of a classic overnight success story. However, like the majority of such stories he has, in fact, earned his disco stripes the hard way, though years of non-stop effort. Delving a little deeper reveals that Moodena has, in fact, been working in the electronic music industry for 25 years. Notably he was co-founder of the hugely influential MN2S. Launched in 1995, initially with their now legendary club nights, MN2S went on to expand rapidly. They quickly ventured into all aspects of the music industry with their booking agency, record label and distribution company. Moving forward, 2018 proved to be a landmark year for Moodena. Invited to join Tropical Disco Records by friend Sartorial he quickly took on a variety of roles as partner, in-house producer and resident DJ. His first release for the label, ‘Strawberry Jam’, set the scene for what was to come. Included on ‘Tropical Disco Edit’s Vol. 4:Sound of the Summer’, it hit number one on both deejay.de’s vinyl chart and also the coveted Traxsource Nu Disco chart. DJ support was equally impressive with a long list of legendary selectors including Joey Negro, Danny Krivit, Chez Damier and Soul Clap all supporting. The EP went on to become the label’s biggest selling release of the year. Despite making his mark initially via the Nu Disco charts, Moodena is so much more than a one-genre producer. He has an extensive background in House music and that forms the building blocks for all of his productions which, much like his DJ sets, combine everything from Disco to Deep and Jazz to Soulful moments. Since Volume 4 Moodena has been an essential part of Tropical Disco Record’s output, appearing on every 12” to date as well as multiple digital-only releases. Having now built up an enviable following, Moodena has achieved many more vinyl and digital number ones as DJ’s and music-lovers alike continue to chase down his releases. Indeed his sales power is such that 2019 saw him crowned as the number one Nu Disco artist on Traxsource. Moodena has now clocked up seven number one’s in total on that platform alone. His recent release, ‘The Rattlesnake & The Ant’ recorded an extremely rare 25 consecutive days in the number one position. Stretching his wings, these last 12 months have seen Moodena in strong demand as a remix artist too. His powerhouse mix of Massiande for Midnight Riot recently hit the number one spot on Juno Download. With further remixes incoming for Joey Negro’s Z Records, Groove Culture and Glasgow Underground it’s looking to be a busy year ahead for Moodena. His chart-topping qualities have seen him become hugely sought after by those seeking to add his flair to some of the biggest artists out there. Despite such impressive studio prowess Moodena is perhaps most at home in the DJ booth where he brings his extensive musical knowledge and deep love of vinyl to the fore. Hugely adept at moving the dance floor, his residency for Tropical Disco at Number 90 has seen his reputation as a huge talent behind the decks spread quickly. This has led to high profile festival bookings and club tours across Europe & Asia and a South America Tour planned at the end of 2020. Read more on Last.fm. Last FM Information on Sartorial

Please note the information is done on a artist keyword match and data is provided by LastFM.
As co-owner of Tropical Disco Records alongside Moodena, Sartorial is a man with music coursing through his veins. Buying his first set of Technics in 1997 he has never looked back. From his first residency at Tempo at Dogstar In Brixton, then an underground venue of high regard, right through to running Tropical Disco Records, music has been the guiding light in his life. Growing up as part of London’s burgeoning DnB scene he played at landmark events all over the city studying some of the doyens of the scene in Andy C, LTJ Bukem and Roni Size as he learned both his DJ and production craft. Across the years his love of music imbued with soul and funk saw him gravitate towards house and disco scene citing Louie Vega and Joey Negro as latter day influences. For Sartorial it was only a matter of time before he put all of this accrued knowledge and experience to work. It led to the launch of Tropical Disco Records in 2017. Starting out as a radio show with Sartorial presenting it would quickly develop into a club night and then the record label that we all know and love today. Tropical Disco Records was an immediate success. Sartorial's elegant production style captured the imagination of both Jamie Jones and The Black Madonna who would support his tracks on Radio 1 on the legendary Essential mix and covering Giles Peterson’s show respectively. Seizing his opportunities Sartorial has never looked back. He has become one of the most crucial producers on the disco scene with his success mirrored by that of the label. Consistent digital number 1’s and chart topping sell-out vinyl releases have followed him across the last whirlwind two years. By the end of 2019 his sales power was such that he landed firmly in Traxsource’s coveted top selling Nu Disco artists of the year list at an impressive number 6. Sartorial’s first love as a DJ too has seen him build on Tropical Disco’s club events which now holds down a residency at London’s Number 90 and has also sold out Night Tales. There are also regular appearances at the fabled Ministry of Sound. Sartorial now appears beside those key figures in the scene recently sharing the bill with Roy Davis Jr, Glenn Underground, Marshall Jefferson, Joey Negro and the Shapeshifters as a co-headliner. The festival shows too have flooded in from across Europe with recent appearances at 51st State Festival, Geneva Dance Festival and Noisily. As a DJ he is at home behind the decks easily able to craft his set to the venue and crowd whilst as a producer he has years of experience but with a guiding principle to never stop learning and having fun in the studio. It’s safe to say that for Sartorial and Tropical Disco Records their place of dominance in the disco scene is assured for years to come. And that trusty set of Technics? They are still part of his setup today. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
