Guitarist Gary Clark Jr. recruited Andra Day to join him in recording a new version of “Pearl Cadillac.” The original version of the song appears on Gary’s 2019 studio album, This Land.
Clark Jr. debuted “Pearl Cadillac” live during his February appearance on Saturday Night Live. The song quickly became a staple of Gary’s concerts with some takes expanding into the seven or eight-minute mark. Gary and Andra recorded a more streamlined rendition “showcasing Day’s commanding vocal performance with Clark [that] now plays like a classic Prince-inspired power ballad,” as per a press release
