DESCRIPTION:
2005 Blues/ Rock/ Folk LP 2x12" Repressed on HEavyweight Vinyl & includes Free Download Of LP -Inc Cover Of 9 Inch Nails - HURT.

The Legend of Johnny Cash is billed as the "first ever complete career spanning collection," which is true to a certain extent -- other collections cover territory from 1955 to 2003, but this is the first to contain everything from Sun to Cash's Rick Rubin-produced comeback recordings for American in the '90s and 2000s. Since the biggest complaint that could be lodged against the otherwise excellent 2005 box The Legend -- which, despite appearances to the contrary, is an entirely different compilation -- was that it contained none of these Rubin-produced records, it would seem like The Legend Of would be a bit of a godsend, but that's not necessarily true. If The Legend contained too little of Cash's American recordings, The Legend Of contains too many. At 21 tracks it would seem like this would contain most of Cash's signature songs, and while it does contain a great many of them

John R. Cash (born J. R. Cash; February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003) was an American singer-songwriter. His music often explored themes of sorrow, moral reflection, and redemption, particularly in his later work. He had a deep bass-baritone voice and was accompanied by the Tennessee Three, a backing band noted for its distinctive guitar rhythms. Cash was known for performing prison concerts and frequently wore an all-black stage wardrobe, which led to his nickname "Man in Black." Cash was born in Kingsland, Arkansas, to a family of cotton farmers. He grew up listening to gospel music and performed on a local radio station during high school. He served four years in the Air Force, including time stationed in West Germany. After returning to the United States, he became prominent in the mid-1950s rockabilly scene in Memphis, Tennessee. In his concerts, he often introduced himself with "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash," followed by performances of songs such as "Folsom Prison Blues." Other notable songs from his career include "I Walk the Line," "Ring of Fire," "Get Rhythm," and "Man in Black." He also recorded humorous tracks like "One Piece at a Time" and "A Boy Named Sue," duets with his future wife June such as "Jackson," and songs about railroads including "Hey, Porter," "Orange Blossom Special," and "Rock Island Line." Later in his career, Cash covered songs by contemporary rock artists, including "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails, "Rusty Cage" by Soundgarden, and "Personal Jesus" by Depeche Mode. Cash sold more than 90 million records worldwide. His work encompassed country, rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel music. He was inducted into the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame. His life and career were depicted in the 2005 biographical film "Walk the Line."
