DESCRIPTION:
Punk pioneers Crass continue their vinyl reissue series, repressing their limited releases of adjacent artists through Crass Records, in association with One Little Independent Records. Following records from Honey Bane and Jane Gregory in March, comes reissues from Captain Sensible and Omega Tribe.

The series, including over twenty bands and solo artists recorded at the legendary Southern Studios and produced by Penny Rimbaud, continues with two historic pieces of the Crass Records catalogue; anarcho-punk outfit Omega Tribe’s debut release ‘Angry Songs’, and cult icon Captain Sensible’s ‘This is Your Captain Speaking’. The anti-establishment themes explored by both artists remains as pertinent today as they were upon their release over forty years ago.

‘This Is Your Captain Speaking’ by Captain Sensible (a founding member of punk rock legends The Damned) mixes pure punk audaciousness with hints of psychedelia and goth as well as choral music, to create something undeniably “Captain”. The EP features vocal contributions from the band, Dolly Mixture and engineer John Loder’s young daughter Tash. Penny Rimbaud, who wrote the lyrics for the first track, ‘What D’Ya Give’, features on drums throughout. Tongue-in-cheek and also raw, the EP represents a pivotal moment when two of punk’s original trailblazers joined forces.

Tongue-in-cheek and also raw, the EP represents a pivotal moment when two of punk’s original trailblazers joined forces. First released on 7” vinyl, limiting the sound, the new repressing has been remastered for 12” at Abbey Road Studios, allowing this release to be heard as never before.

This, plus enlarged replicas of the original covers, brings new gusto to the already radical sound

Captain Sensible (born Raymond Burns, April 24, 1954 in Balham, London, England) is a singer and guitarist (and sometimes bassist) who founded the punk rock band The Damned in 1976. After leaving the band, he reinvented himself as a new-wave singer with a rebellious, self-conscious image. In 1980, he went to the Netherlands. Poison Girls and Annie Anxiety were playing in the Paard van Troje in The Hague then. Cheap'n'Nasty were support band: but could not find their drummer boy Maarten. Their drummer girl Ria was ill. Captain Sensible then played the drums for Cheap'n'Nasty. His solo hits included "Wot?", "Happy Talk" (a UK number one hit) both songs backed by Dolly Mixture, "One Christmas Catalogue" and "Glad It's All Over". He has toured with his solo band Punk Floyd, a spoof of the band Pink Floyd. His signature headwear is a red beret. He later rejoined The Damned in 1996 after drummer Rat Scabies left, and co-wrote Grave Disorder, the band's first new studio album for 12 years, in 2001. He continues to tour with the band today, one of his trademark moves on stage is playing guitar with an empty beer can. Captain Sensible is also a member of Dead Men Walking, a 'super-group' featuring Mike Peters (The Alarm), Kirk Brandon (Spear of Destiny) and Slim Jim (Stray Cats). He is the father of Syd Bor from Beetzart He currently has a new album out on Easy Action with his new splinter group THE SENSIBLE GREY CELLS " A Postcard From Britain" featuring ex Hot Rod and Damned Bassist Paul Gray and drummer Ant Thickett Read more on Last.fm.
