1978 Art Rock / Pop Rock LP Remastered And Repressed on 180g Vinyl.

The Kick Inside, released when the singer/songwriter was only 19 years old (but featuring some songs written at 15 and recorded at 16), is her most unabashedly romantic, the sound of an impressionable and highly precocious teenager spreading her wings for the first time. The centerpiece is "Wuthering Heights," which was a hit everywhere except the United States (and propelled the Emily Brontë novel back onto the best-seller lists in England), but there is a lot else here to enjoy: The disturbing "Man with the Child in His Eyes," the catchy rocker "James and the Cold Gun," and "Feel It," an early manifestation of Bush's explorations of sexual experience in song, which would culminate with "Hounds of Love." As those familiar with the latter well know, she would do better work in the future, but this is still a mightily impressive debut.

Catherine Bush (born 30 July 1958) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, and record producer. She is known for her eclectic musical style, literary and unconventional lyrics, and innovative use of dance and visual performance. Her work has influenced a wide range of artists across genres. Bush began writing songs at the age of 11 and was later signed to EMI Records after David Gilmour of Pink Floyd helped fund a professional demo recording. In 1978, aged 19, she achieved a four-week run at number one on the UK Singles Chart with her debut single, "Wuthering Heights", becoming the first female artist to top the chart with a song she had written entirely herself. Her debut studio album, "The Kick Inside" (1978), reached number three on the UK Albums Chart. She subsequently became the first British female solo artist to top the UK Albums Chart and the first female artist to enter the chart at number one. All nine of her studio albums have reached the UK top 10, including the number-one albums "Never for Ever" (1980) and "Hounds of Love" (1985), as well as the compilation "The Whole Story" (1986). From "The Dreaming" (1982) onwards, she produced all of her studio albums. After "The Red Shoes" (1993), she took a 12-year hiatus before releasing "Aerial" (2005). Her albums "Director’s Cut" and "50 Words for Snow" were both released in 2011. Bush has released 25 UK top 40 singles, including the top 10 hits "The Man with the Child in His Eyes" (1978), "Babooshka" (1980), "Running Up That Hill" (1985), "Don’t Give Up" (a 1986 duet with Peter Gabriel), and "King of the Mountain" (2005). In 2014, she returned to live performance with the concert residency "Before the Dawn", her first shows since the "Tour of Life" in 1979. In 2022, "Running Up That Hill" experienced renewed international success after its inclusion in the Netflix series "Stranger Things". The song subsequently reached number one in the United Kingdom for a second time and peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100, while also topping several international charts. The album "Hounds of Love" also re-entered the charts, reaching number twelve on the Billboard 200 and topping two Billboard genre charts. Bush has received numerous honours, including 14 Brit Award nominations, winning British Female Solo Artist in 1987, and seven Grammy Award nominations. In 2002, she received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music. She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2013 New Year Honours for services to music. In 2020, she became a Fellow of the Ivors Academy, and in 2023 she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
