Alan Braxe is releasing a reissue of the long-out-of-print 2005 cult classic "The Upper Cuts" on Domino's new sub-label Smugglers Way.
The compilation re-edition includes re-mastered versions of Braxe's tracks with Fred Falke, his remix of Shakedown's "At Night" and two of his most popular and influential collaborations - The Paradise's "In Love With You", the elegant slice of heartbreak house that he created with singer Romuald Louverjon, and Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You," the world hit he produced with Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter and singer Benjamin Diamond, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The Upper Cuts (2023 Edition) also includes seven bonus tracks, including Braxe's remix of Britney Spears' "Anticipating" and two all-new tracks "True Love" and "Never Coming Back", which features Norwegian pop artist Annie.

Alan Braxe & Fred Falke's 'Intro' was an undeniable earworm in its day, being the scratchy French house montager on present everyone's decks for at least several summers in a row in the early 00s. Few know Braxe was also behind the inimitable 'Music Sounds Better With You' by Stardust, alongside Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter of course, for which he was finally credited on 'The Upper Cuts' here, first released in 2005. Now almost twenty years later, the EP gets a full reissue, documenting some of the artist's most well-known hits.

"The name ALAN BRAXE is synonymous with the development of the French music scene. He stands out as a pioneer of electronic music, due to a unique ability to put melody over mass and his sound is the very embodiment of the mythical “French Touch”. The story of Braxe’s journey to heralded international producer/ DJ and the birth of his acclaimed Label “Vulture Music”, are very much entwined by their history and ideals. 1997 “Vertigo” is released on the legendary label, Roulé. One year later, collaborating with Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter and Benjamin Diamond providing the vocals, Stardust “Music sounds better with you” is born. It was an international smash hit, spending weeks at the top of the charts. Accompanied by a remarkable film clip (directed by Michel Gondry), it is still as much of anthem today as when it first debuted. It was no surprise that the major artists came knocking on Alan’s door hoping to secure his unique style and sound for their own material. Remixes for the likes of Björk, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, Jamiroquai and Beyoncé, were just a few of the artist that lifted Alain’s remix profile to new heights. Using the same instinct that forged his early success, Braxe set his focus on building up his label “Vulture Music” and pushing his own musical boundaries. After been approached by world-renowned hip-hop MC Killa Kela to write and produce material, Braxe showed the world just how diverse and varied his musical interests are. The key to Alan and Vulture’s success lay in the ability to create a new path, not just follow the road ahead. Vulture provided a futurist, open and musically free space for diverse and talented artists such as Lifelike, Kris Menace and Fred Falke to write and produce some of their best material. This period saw the release of some hugely acclaimed hits, including “Chrystal City”, “Running”, “Discopolis” and another classic anthem for Braxe, “Intro”. When Alan is not touring the world as an international DJ, he is running his ever-expanding label “Vulture” and supporting some of the freshest and most exciting artists around. He is constantly seeking music that will challenge our perception and open our ears. Acts like Das Glow, Fenech Soler and the newest edition to join Vulture (the outstanding idyllic Swedish duo) Pacific!, have all formed part of Alan’s vision to develop music that speaks for Vulture and most importantly for itself !" Last FM Information on Fred Falke

French disco-house producer Fred Falke first rose to prominence by collaborating with Stardust co-producer Alan Braxe on a series of 12"s on the Vulture Music and Kitsuné labels, most notably the synth pop-inspired 2003 hit "Rubicon." These tracks were collected on Braxe's 2005 compilation The Upper Cuts. The duo became in-demand remixers, completing mixes for Death from Above 1979, Kelis, Goldfrapp, Röyksopp, Justice, and many others, until ending their partnership in 2008. Falke also began working with German house producer Kris Menace, remixing his 2004 single "Missile Test" (as part of duo Menace & Adam) and guesting on his 2006 single "Fairlight." Falke released a few solo singles and EPs, starting with 2006's "Omega Man," and most of these tracks were collected on his 2011 full-length Part IV, released by Kris Menace's Work It Baby imprint. Falke has been far more prolific as a remixer and producer than a solo artist, adding smooth disco guitar and electro-house beats to tracks by a variety of pop, rock, R&B, and dance artists ranging from Hot Chip and VHS or Beta to Ke$ha, Sia, Katy Perry, and Lana Del Rey. He has also co-written and produced songs for several British pop stars, including Ellie Goulding, Florrie, and Will Young. Falke started out as a bass player around 1995 before turning his hand to production work in the late 1990s. His first record, a collaboration with Alan Braxe named Intro, which sampled The Jets 1987 hit Crush On You, was released in 2000 on Vulture Music. The pair would form a very productive partnership releasing a handful of singles and becoming in-demand remixers for the likes of Goldfrapp, Röyksopp, Kelis and Justice. The partnership would last until 2008 when they went their separate ways. In addition, he has collaborated on various other productions with artists such as Savage, Miami Horror and Knightlife. Fred Falke is now an in-demand remixer in his own right and has produced remixes for a number of mainstream rock and electronic artists. Falke has reworked songs from artists as diverse as Little Boots, Gossip, U2, Annie, Grizzly Bear, Ladyhawke, Lykke Li, La Roux among many others. Falke has also worked with Xenomania.
