Last FM Information on Boyd Jarvis

Please note the information is done on a artist keyword match and data is provided by LastFM.
Boyd H. Jarvis (1958 - 2018) was an American record producer, remixer and musician, best known for his song, co-written with Jason Smith, "The Music Got Me"; released in 1983 by Prelude Records. He has collaborated with artists such as Herbie Hancock, La Toya Jackson and Johnny Kemp. In the early 1980s, a time in which NYC was the world’s nexus of burgeoning musical movements such as club, rap, hip hop and electro, Boyd created a musical sound through the use of home made, reel to reel and hand played overdubs that were featured extensively on early-mid 80s NYC WBLS FM “extended music sweeps” with DJs Timmy Regisford and later, Merlin Bobb. Those unreleased tracks, as well as records, were widely played in other parts of the world in club mixes, and in Chicago formed the basis for the house music revolution that swept Europe in the mid-late 80s and continues as the world’s foremost dance music. His influence was also felt in mainstream dance music when British producers, following a mid-80s NYC visit and exposure to Jarvis vocalist Colonel Abrams, created similar records with Rick Ashley, known for the hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”. In 1990, Jarvis sued Robert Clivillés and David Cole of C+C Music Factory for copyright infringement over their song "Get Dumb", which illegally incorporates parts of "The Music Got Me". He resided in New Jersey with his wife and continued to write, record, and produce music under his label, CFX Records. Boyd Jarvis died February 16, 2018. Boyd Jarvis has become a legend in the underground and dance music industry. Boyd Jarvis is a music producer, composer, keyboard player and dj who is highly respected as an innovator in music production and remixing. Boyd has worked for many of the recording industries icons, including Prince, Madonna, Herbie Hancock, Ah Ha, Boy George. Boyd started his career in the entertainment business as an intern for the renowned dancer/choreographer, Pearl Primus and trained under Sandra Ross in theater lighting and set design. He went on to design lighting for shows at Lincoln Center, Perry Street Theater, and Riverside Church Theater. Music had always been a passion of his and so in 1981 he bought his first synthesizer, a Yamaha CS-15. Timmy Regisford heard him play at Melon’s and asked him to overdub a set that Timmy was about to do as an audition for WBLS. Soon, Boyd and Timmy were producing a dance music show for WBLS. From that show came the hit track, The Music’s Got Me . Boyd and Timmy began to do a lot of work as remixers. The rest, as they say, is history. Since that time, Boyd’s career has continued to evolve. Boyd is known for his collaborations with top producer/DJ's like Francois Kevorkian, Joe Claussell, Louie Vega, Dave Morales etc. Boyd Jarvis has years of experience in diverse areas of the artistic and production process coupled with an innate expertise in marketing and sales. Boyd has also been showcasing his dj skills with his internet radio show, New York After Midnight, on Cyberjams Internet Radio. He started the show on Japanese radio and then moved to Cyberjams. The intensity, joy and passion that Boyd Jarvis brings to all of his productions is quite amazing considering how prolific he has been. When a Boyd Jarvis track plays on the dance floor and the crowd goes wild, it’s because they can feel all of the love he has put into making the music great. His dedication to producing great music that people can really enjoy is what has made him legendary.
