Bon Jovi had perfected a formula for hard pop/rock by the time of New Jersey, concentrating on singalong choruses sung over and over again, frequently by a rough, extensively overdubbed chorus, producing an effect not unlike what these songs sounded like in the arenas and stadiums where they were most often heard. The lyrics had that typical pop twist -- although they nominally expressed romantic commitment, sentiments such as "Lay Your Hands on Me" and "I'll Be There for You" worked equally well as a means for the band and its audience to reaffirm their affection for each other. The only thing that marred the perfection of this communion was Jon Bon Jovi's continuing obsession with a certain predecessor from his home state; at times, he seemed to be trying to re-create Born to Run using cheaper materials.

Last FM Information on Bon Jovi

Please note the information is done on a artist keyword match and data is provided by LastFM.
Bon Jovi is an American rock band formed in 1983 in Sayreville, New Jersey. The current lineup features singer Jon Bon Jovi, keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, guitarists Phil X and John Shanks, percussionist Everett Bradley, and bassist Hugh McDonald. Founding bassist Alec John Such left in 1994, and longtime guitarist and co-songwriter Richie Sambora departed in 2013. The band first gained attention with their 1984 self-titled debut album, propelled by the Top 40 single "Runaway." They achieved global success with their third album, "Slippery When Wet" (1986), which produced two Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles, "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' on a Prayer." Their follow-up, "New Jersey" (1988), continued their commercial dominance, yielding five Top 10 singles, including two more chart-toppers. Throughout the late 1980s, the band toured extensively, culminating in the 1988–1990 "New Jersey Syndicate Tour." In 1992, Bon Jovi released "Keep the Faith," introducing a more mature sound and the hit "Bed of Roses." Their 1994 compilation "Cross Road" featured "Always," the band’s longest-charting single. "These Days" (1995) continued their evolution, particularly in the UK and Europe, producing several top ten hits. After a brief hiatus, they returned with "Crush" (2000), whose lead single, "It's My Life," introduced them to a younger audience. Albums "Have a Nice Day" (2005) and "Lost Highway" (2007) saw Bon Jovi experimenting with country influences, most notably on the Grammy-winning single "Who Says You Can't Go Home." The band returned to straight rock with "The Circle" (2009) and followed with "Greatest Hits" (2010), achieving international chart success. "What About Now" (2013) was their last album with Sambora, who left mid-tour that year. Bon Jovi’s first studio album without Sambora, "This House Is Not for Sale" (2016), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Their fifteenth album, "2020," was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic and inspired by global events, including the George Floyd protests. The band’s sixteenth album, "Forever," was released on June 7, 2024, preceded by the singles "Legendary" and "Living Proof." Bon Jovi is set to return to touring in 2026, marking the first tour since Jon Bon Jovi’s 2022 vocal surgery, with performances at Madison Square Garden and major European cities. Over their 40-year career, Bon Jovi has released 16 studio albums, five compilations, and three live albums, selling over 130 million records worldwide. They have performed for more than 34 million fans across 50 countries, earning recognition for bridging heavy metal and pop with style and ease. The band was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006 and the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, and received the Award of Merit at the American Music Awards in 2004.
