black midi was an English experimental rock band from London comprising Morgan Simpson (drums), Cameron Picton (bass/vocals), and Geordie Greep (guitar/vocals). Between 2017 and 2020, the band also included guitarist Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin.
They began gaining popularity through touring across Europe, their breakthrough into the U.S. and a number of videos of live performances being posted online. In early 2019, the band released two singles along with the announcement of their debut album Schlagenheim which was released later that year on the 21st of June, and their sophomore effort Cavalcade released in May of 2021 -- to universal critical acclaim. Their third project, Hellfire, released on the 15th of July, 2022, to further acclaim. On Aug 10th, 2024, Greep would announce an indefinite hiatus of the band on Instagram Live.
Since then, Greep released his solo album The New Sound, Picton formed a new group, My New Band Believe, and Simpson began working with jazz musician Nala Sinephro and rapper Little Simz, appearing on their albums Endlessness (2024) and Lotus (2025) respectively. On January 12th, 2026, Rough Trade announced the passing of Kwasniewski-Kelvin, aged 26.
