DESCRIPTION:
1983 Goth Rock LP Repressed on Coloured Vinyl - Bauhaus' most commercial-sounding album. It is arguably their most effective, and, sadly, their last album as a group, though numerous collections and live recordings have appeared in its wake. This album shows all of the group's strengths. Bauhaus creates an immediately identifiable 'mood' in the mind of the listener, as in the opening track (She's in Parties). they have an uncanny knack for revealing massive, dense beats in the middle of what would be, in others' hands, straight-ahead rock songs. Bauhaus also has a unique ability to wring poignancy and nostalgia out of the weirdest lyrical constructs - as in the album's centerpiece, Who Killed Mr Moonlight, introduced by piano and mournful saxophone. the album originally ended with Hope, a brilliant three-minutes that advises "make the most of a million times no" with choral vocals, a gorgeous, thick bassline, and a shimmering guitar.

Last FM Information on Bauhaus

Bauhaus were an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. Known for their dark image and atmospheric sound, they are considered pioneers of gothic rock, while also incorporating elements of dub, glam rock, psychedelia, and funk. The band consisted of Daniel Ash (guitar, saxophone), Peter Murphy (vocals, occasional instruments), Kevin Haskins (drums), and David J (bass). Originally named Bauhaus 1919 after the founding year of the German art school Bauhaus, the group shortened their name within a year of formation. Their 1979 debut single, "Bela Lugosi's Dead," is regarded as a seminal track in the development of gothic rock and has influenced contemporary goth culture. Their debut album, "In the Flat Field," is considered one of the first gothic rock records. The 1981 follow-up, "Mask," expanded their sound with a broader range of instruments, including keyboards, saxophone, and acoustic guitar, and experimented with funk-inspired rhythms on tracks such as "Kick in the Eye." Bauhaus achieved mainstream success in the United Kingdom with their third album, "The Sky's Gone Out," which reached number three on the UK Albums Chart in 1982. That year, their cover of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust" reached number 15 on the UK Singles Chart, earning them an appearance on "Top of the Pops." During the recording of their next album, Peter Murphy fell ill and was often absent from the studio, creating tensions that led to the band's breakup on July 5, 1983, one week before the release of "Burning from the Inside." The album included the Top 30 UK single "She's in Parties" and was their last studio album of entirely new material for 25 years. After Bauhaus disbanded, Murphy formed Dalis Car with bassist Mick Karn and later pursued a solo career, while Ash and Haskins continued as Tones on Tail and later reunited with David J to form Love and Rockets. Murphy and Love and Rockets achieved greater commercial success in the United States than Bauhaus. The band reunited for tours in 1998, from 2005 to 2008, and again in 2019 and 2022.
