On only its sixth vinyl outing,Sydney label Only Cuts has scored something of a coup by securing a first EP in almost a decade from Jeremy Joshua and Matt Nugent's once prolific Avon Stringer project. The pair return in predictably muscular and forthright form via 'Work This House', where looped, ghetto-house style vocal samples ride a booming bassline and tough, peak-time house beats. 'Hold Your Head Up High' sees the Aussie twosome reach for classic diva vocal snippets, colourful riffs and a more tactile groove, while 'For The Music' is a nostalgic slab of late 90s style NYC garage-house hedonism with added nods to the early work of Brixton heroes Basement Jaxx. Closing cut 'Samba', meanwhile, is a joyous slab of summery Latin house positivity.
