1. Void were an American hardcore punk band formed in Columbia, Maryland, in 1980, and is widely regarded as one of the most uncompromising and influential acts of the early Washington, D.C. hardcore scene. Although the group’s existence was brief, its ferocious musical approach and volatile live presence left a lasting imprint on punk and later crossover thrash subgenres. The band’s lineup consisted of John Weiffenbach on vocals, Jon “Bubba” Dupree on guitar, Chris Stover on bass, and Sean Finnegan on drums. Their name was inspired by the Black Sabbath song “Into the Void,” reflecting an affinity for heavy sounds even as they emerged within a largely punk-driven environment. Void’s music was distinguished by an aggressive blend of hardcore punk speed and raw energy with hints of metallic intensity, propelled by Dupree’s inventive guitar work and Weiffenbach’s frenzied vocal delivery. Void quickly became part of the tightly knit D.C. punk community, despite coming from outside the city proper, in part through associations with key figures like Ian MacKaye, Henry Rollins, and Bert Queiroz. Their first notable performance in Washington, D.C. took place in 1980 at the Wilson Center, a marathon, multi-band hardcore festival organized by Bad Brains that featured around fifteen acts. This early show helped establish Void’s reputation for chaotic, high-velocity sets that pushed the limits of what audiences expected from hardcore. In 1981, the band recorded their first demo, Condensed Flesh, at Don Zientara’s Inner Ear Studios—an early documentation of their unrefined sound that would later be officially released as the Condensed Flesh EP in 1992. Around the same time, Void made their vinyl debut in January 1982 with three tracks (“Dehumanized,” “Authority,” and “My Rules”) on the influential Dischord Records compilation Flex Your Head, a release that captured the vibrancy and diversity of the D.C. scene and brought Void to a wider underground audience. The summer and fall of 1982 marked a peak period of activity for Void, both live and in the studio. They embarked on tours across the Northeastern United States, including shows at critical venues such as CBGB in New York City, a hub for punk and hardcore music. In September 1982, Void shared what would become their most iconic released work with fellow D.C. band The Faith: the Faith/Void Split LP on Dischord Records. Void’s side of the split is often cited as a pivotal moment in the evolution of hardcore, showcasing frenetic songs that blended extreme tempo with a raw, almost chaotic aesthetic that presaged later crossover and thrash developments. Despite their growing influence, Void’s time as a band was short. After recording material in 1983 with the intention of releasing a full album (sometimes referred to as Potion for Bad Dreams), the group dissolved, citing artistic and practical disputes that included frustrations with recording opportunities and internal pressures. Their formal releases remained limited to the Flex Your Head compilation and the Faith/Void Split, but their recorded and live legacy continued to circulate through compilations such as the later Sessions 1981–83, which compiled previously unheard studio and live material. In the decades following their breakup, Void has retained a cult stature within hardcore punk history. Their work, though sparse in official output, is frequently referenced by fans and musicians alike as a precursor to crossover styles and a testament to the raw intensity of the early D.C. scene. Retrospective releases and archival discoveries have helped to preserve the band’s ferocity for new generations, underscoring the importance of their short but explosive run within American underground music. Original member Sean Finnegan would pass away on January 30, 2008, from a heart attack. There are multiple artists tracked as "Void" on Last.fm. The following are listed in order of prominence. 2. Void are an American thrash metal band from Lafayette, Louisiana, formed in 2019 by vocalist Jackson Davenport. With influences such as Metallica, King Diamond, and Annihilator, the band quickly made a name for themselves across the Gulf Coast with an unmistakable sound rooted in tradition but fired with modern intensity, with songs such as “First In, Last Out” and “Return of the Phantom” being popular among fans. Void has undergone various lineup changes through the years, including the departure of guitarist Alex Bernard in 2024 and bassist Logan Davenport, the brother of vocalist Jackson, that same year. As of summer 2024, Void’s lineup consists of vocalist Jackson Davenport, guitarists Chris Braune and Gabe LeJeune, bassist Blake Adams, and drummer Aaron Landry. Void quickly gained both local and national attention with their fierce live performances and relentless energy. After building regional momentum through local shows and their first Southern U.S. tour in October 2022, the band entered the studio during the winter of 2022 and early 2023 to record their debut album. The result, Horrors of Reality, was a raw and relentless fusion of Bay Area thrash aggression and sinister, horror-driven themes. It was released on February 3, 2023. To support the album, Void embarked on the Haunted Madness Tour across the southern United States during the summer of 2023, later capping off the year with the Halloween release of their single “Silent Onslaught.” In 2024, Void launched their Spectral Aggression U.S. tour and briefly ventured west to open for thrash legends Whiplash. With a new lineup and a refined sonic identity, Void released their single “Return of the Phantom” on November 30, 2024. The track, a more mature and dynamic evolution of their sound, was accompanied by a B-side cover of Celtic Frost’s “Necromantical Screams” and received critical acclaim. In early 2025, Void announced their sophomore album, Forbidden Morals, and began recording while touring the East Coast alongside Louisiana metal icons Exhorder. The singles “Apparition” and “Judas Cradle,” released in May and July respectively, showcased a darker, more layered musical direction. The album Forbidden Morals was officially released on August 29, 2025, coinciding with the band’s Breaking and Entering summer tour and further solidifying Void’s reputation as one of the rising forces in modern thrash metal. 3.
