Catherine Slater, known professionally as Slayyyter, is an American singer and songwriter from St. Louis, Missouri. She started her career independently through SoundCloud, all while working as a receptionist and then at a restaurant. She formerly went by Slater, before renaming herself to Slayyyter.
Slayyyter officially debuted in August 2018 with her first single, "BFF" featuring Ayesha Erotica, which she had contacted shortly after becoming a fan. Slayyyter first began teasing the song on her Instagram by sharing snippets and posting pictures captioned "BFF".
"BFF" was later released on August 6, 2018. Throughout the beginning of her career, she met producers such as Robokid, Boy Sim and Donatachi who were more known for their involvement in PC Music. She had also met artists such as That Kid, and Charli XCX whom she has both collaborated with. Slayyyter later released singles such as "Ghost", "I'm High" and "Platform Shoes" before finally announcing her first album-length project alongside the release of "Candy", stating that it would be the last single before the release of her debut mixtape. Despite this, she released the stand-alone single "Hello Kitty" to make up for a messy March release schedule.
She also later announced that she'd be working with producers such as Ayesha Erotica, Ghost Haus and Boy Sim. Despite her mixtape being aimed for release in November 2018, it was delayed and pushed back to 2019 after Slayyyter had private and personal information publicly leaked on the internet. Following the leak, Slayyyter released "Alone" and a holiday themed single, "All I Want for Xxxmas", which was released only days before Christmas.
In early 2019, Slayyyter announced her viral Valentine's Day single "Mine", which was reused in various Twitter memes to hype the upcoming single. Following its release, "Mine" reached #38 on the iTunes pop chart in the United States.
Months after the minor success of "Mine", Slayyyter had teased her upcoming single, "Daddy AF". After previously teasing snippets of the track and its music video, she officially released it along with its music video. It was her first ever single officially released under a label, and her most popular single to date. It was also her first ever high budget video, directed by Logan Fields.
After the success of "Daddy AF", Slayyyter released an official cover of Britney Spears' original song, "Everytime", which was a tribute to the ongoing #FREEBRITNEY movement.
In June 2019, Slayyyter began her first tour, titled The Mini Tour, supported by fellow collaborators Robokid, Boy Sim and That Kid. Shortly after, she released her second official cover, this time of Nelly's original song "Ride wit Me". Not long after, "Cha Ching" was released as the final single before her highly anticipated debut self-titled mixtape, Slayyyter would come out on September 17, 2019, the same day as her birthday.
After a period of silence and inactivity, Slayyyter teased and released a brand new single after months titled "Self Destruct (featuring Wuki) which signaled in a new musical era. Over the next months and into 2021, she would release new singles including "Throatzillaaa", "Troubled Paradise", and "Clouds", all of which would be included on her debut studio album, Troubled Paradise. Her debut studio album was eventually released on June 11, 2021.
