MELE (born Marlene Dora Schittenhelm in 1995) is a German singer-songwriter and former TV/online host.
Raised in a musical family in Esslingen, she discovered her passion for songwriting at a very young age — reportedly writing her first song at age three in a supermarket.
From 2014 to 2020, she studied pop singing, piano, and electric bass at the Institute of Music at Osnabrück University of
In 2017, she founded a band under the name MELE, and released her debut EP “Tschau Karen!” that same year.
Over time, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the project evolved into her solo act.
MELE’s music combines elements of alternative pop, electronic sounds and rap. Her lyrics are honest and intimate — they feel like diary fragments, party conversations, or late-night musings, often delivered with self-irony and a refreshing directness.
She’s already shared the stage with acts like Grossstadtgeflüster, KLAN, Jeremias and Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys, and played at major German festivals including Southside, Deichbrand, and Open Flair.
MELE’s debut album, “Nichts macht Sinn”, was released in August 2024.
The album showcases her maturing sound — emotionally rich, playful, danceable, and deeply personal.
Besides her music career, she also worked as a moderator for the German public broadcaster’s youth network funk, co-hosting the show Offen un’ ehrlich. Her work there won her recognition — she and her team received the Grimme Prize for their moderation.
