KidGusto's career in music started in 1986 when he experimented with his first musical instrument, the trumpet. After three years of study, KidGusto took an active interest in percussive instruments, and initially explored the drum kit. He has continued to engage every avenue of rhythm and melody since it first captivated his senses. His love affair with all things musical has struck an insatiable desire to throw himself into various instruments, recording consoles, audio programs, collaborative works and most importantly, performance. KG has the ability and musical prowess to ascertain the complexities of international rhythms as well as the techniques utilized to rock a dance floor. His thirst to fully comprehend and translate the expansive universe of music yields a plethora of unique and distinctive stylings. KidGusto has performed in numerous musical outfits; from punk rock bands to jazz ensembles; from participant laden world music groups to funk tribute troupes. He is charged with an uncommon versatility that can be heard in his performance driven music as well as his original productions. In addition to the various performing side projects, he is a renowned US and abroad traveled DJ and Producer, most notably in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. His talents both inside and outside the studio have earned him recognition from the likes of Eighteenth Street Lounge, Thievery Corporation, All Good Funk Alliance, Rhythm & Culture Recordings, Desmond Williams, Mustafa Akbar and Fort Knox Recordings. KidGusto has produced exclusive tracks for record labels such as Rhythm & Culture Recordings, All Good Funk Alliance, Citrona Records, Bastard Jazz records in Brooklyn, as well as the musical score to the community outreach documentary, First Person directed by Ben Herold.
