(2)Early history: Duality was born from the ashes of a Metallica/Megadeth cover band, originally implemented by Matti Auerkallio (guitar) and Tero Heinonen (drums) in Valkeakoski, Finland. The bands name and line-up varyed, with Toni Salminen (Farmakon) sometimes jamming along on guitar, later Rami Rautarinta, another jam-mate of Tero's on the same instrument. No bassist was involved in any rehearsal those times. Some original riffs were also jammed on, eventually ending up as two full songs on a home studio demo, not a very good ..)
A turning point: After some time a song called "Symbiot" was composed by Matti, a very different kind of song from the earlier riffs, a lot more complex and heavier, introducing 7-stringed guitars, less common time-signatures and growled vocals along the more traditional singing. The song was recorded by Matti and Tero, and made an ok version. Matti and Tero tried rehearsing Symbiot along with another piece which eventually became "In The Mist" with Rami, but things weren't really working out. Matti decided to continue the project alone for a while.
To the present situation: The 2 songs mentioned earlier were soon accompanied by a third full piece called "Useless", a swift and quirky gargoyle of metal. The trio of progressive death/thrash was later layed on to tape (well ok computer hard drive), with Rolf Pilve (Essence of Sorrow, Miseration, Dreamtale, Status Minor, Sightless) on drums, Matti on guitars/vocals/bass and Tom Gardiner (Hateform, Essence of Sorrow) spurting out insane guitar solos. At the moment the trio is looking for a bassist to complete the line-up. The future is hazy, but new material has already been written by Matti, we'll see where things lead!
