There are multiple artists that go by the name Crescent; 1) Crescent is an alternative music band from Bristol, England, formed in the early 1990s by Matt Jones (guitar, vocals and other instruments), Chris Locke (bass on earlier albums) and Jasper Larsen (drums and percussion). Currently, the two principal members are brothers Matt Jones and Sam Jones (guitar and other instruments). Sam Jones also plays and records as 'The Balky Mule'. Both the Jones brothers are also members of Movietone. Kate Wright (singer and guitarist in Movietone) is also the bass player in Crescent. Movietone's Rachel Coe plays clarinet on their 2017 album Resin Pockets, and Sam Jones occasionally played live with Flying Saucer Attack, a band which also had Rachel Coe (then Brook) as a permanent member. Crescent's music is generally slow, minimalistic and melancholy, unsurprisingly in a similar vein to Movietone but with an occasionally harsh, discordant edge, particularly in the earlier records. Recordings are deliberately low fidelity, often incorporating ambient sounds and samples of speech. The second album Electronic Sound Constructions was recorded by Matt Jones alone, and is entirely instrumental. The release of By the Roads and the Fields (2003) marked a change of style and since then the band have adopted a more song-focused approach. 2) Crescent is a blackened death metal band from Egypt, founded in 1998. Crescent formed in 1998 as a black metal band, making it one of the oldest extreme metal bands in Egypt and the region. It was the first to perform at Wacken Open Air and many other festivals and countries. Crescent headlined numerous gigs and concerts in their homeland – Egypt, such as in El Sawy Culture Wheel, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Swiss Club, Azhar Park and many other small venues. Crescent was formed in 1998 in Cairo, Egypt by Ismaeel Attallah and Amr Mokhtar. They started as a pure black metal band, inspired by Dissection, At The Gates, Death and Bolt Thrower. They released a demo in 1999 titled Edgar Allan Poe's "Dreamland". Later, they started gradually shifting towards the Egyptian death metal sound using Eastern sounding scales, going back to the roots to embrace the Egyptian sound. In 2008, they released the EP, The Retribution which marked their shift towards a more melodic and death metal-inclined sound. Before Pyramid Slaves, Crescent changed about four of rhythm guitarists. They self-released Pyramid Slaves in 2014, which signified their ultimate shift towards their unique blackened death metal with Egyptian elements sound they possess today along with adopting Ancient Egyptian-based lyrical theme. 3) Crescent is an Estonian drum n bass DJ and producer Arvo Lukk, also known under the name Stare. 4) Crescent was an Israeli death metal band that recorded one demo titled Images of Blood in 1995 but later split up. 5) Crescent is an Australian juke / footwork producer that released a four-track cassette EP "IRL EP" on //This Thing// Records and Tapes, featuring breakout single "Mercy Remix" - a re-work of Kanye West's "Mercy". 6) A Japanese visual-kei band active in the late 1990's. Their vocalist later became the first vocalist of Matina's, their record label, flagship band Syndrome.
