There are at least six bands named Chopper. 1.) Chopper was a Connecticut-based power pop band formed in 1989 by guitarist/songwriter Steven Deal (Bleached Black), bassist Dean McNulty, and drummer Furgis Allen. Guitarist Robert Dietrich was added before the release of the band's self-titled 1991 CD, and Nick Appleby soon replaced Dean McNulty on bass. (Steven Deal and Nick Appleby later formed The Absolute Zeros.) Discography: 4-Play EP (1989) Chopper CD (1991) "How Does It Feel to Feel?/Caitlin Cries" 7-inch (1991) "White Summer/How Does It Feel to Feel?" 7-inch (1991) Hush, Hush Plimsouls compilation CD (1992) Slogans and Jingles CD (1993) I Met Her Yesterday Beat tribute CD (1994) Nerves tribute EP (1994) Madhouse on Castle Street CD (1995) Homepage: http://members.aol.com/poppower/chopper/index.html 1993 interview: http://www.nkvdrecords.com/chopper.htm Steven Deal on Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/stevendeal 2.) Hailing from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, these English lads played fast melodic punk in the style of Snuff, NoFX and Leatherface. Chopper dealt in energetic, buzzsaw, hi-speed tunes with plenty backing vocals and released tracks on German and Australian compilation CDs, a Japanese split 7" and a Fierce Panda compilation 7" in addition to a few releases on Crackle! Records. They played a load of gigs around the UK and toured Japan twice as well as putting a load of bands on at the Players in Wakefield. Then after playing a gig at Leeds Fenton mid 98 they split up the day after, moving on to form other bands such as Torino 74. 3.) Chopper Read, real name Mark Brandon Read (born November 17, 1954) (died October 9, 2013), is a former Australian criminal, rapper, and author. Convicted of many crimes including armed robbery, firearm offences, assault and kidnapping, Read spent a mere 13 months outside prison between the ages of 20 and 38, then went on to become a successful author of crime novels, selling in excess of 500,000 copies of his works. More recently, he has also found success as an artist. Read grew up in the Melbourne suburbs of Collingwood, Thomastown, Fitzroy and Preston. He was made a Ward of the State by the age of 14. His criminal career began with the robbing of drug dealers. In his mid teens, Mark was the leader of the Surrey Road gang, a street fighting gang made up of himself, Dave the Jew, Ned Clonan, Cowboy Johnny Harris and Terry the Tank. Dave the Jew is the only person he won’t go into detail about in his books, and Chopper remains good friends with him to this day. While in prison he had a fellow inmate cut off his ears in order to be able to leave the prison temporarily to avoid an ambush by other inmates. Described variously as witty, charismatic, sadistic, and frightening, Read admits to the killing of 19 people and a further 11 attempts. Many of his associates in the underworld claim that Read is prone to making up numbers to increase his own notoriety and the sales of his books. Read himself has stated on numerous occasions that he would “never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn” He released one album... Interview With A Madman... Chopper Read passed away of Liver Cancer on October 9'th, 2013 in Sydney, Australia. (4) There is also a Ghanian highlife artist called Chopper. A track by this artist appears on the compilation "Classic Highlife". 5). The kind of band you love to hate. Failure fuckers. Gods of wudang. Patron saints of idle leisure perched on demon limbs. Not kowtowing to the scene experts who proclaim "quiet is the new loud". Living the manifesto conceived in twilight horizon observation sessions. Have you ever seen a wizard riding a motorcycle? Eagles with tusks clutching giant squid in their talons? An elephant fighting a pack of wolves? Currently training at 100 times earth's gravity, our astronomical decibel levels being honed to avoid serious damage to earthly conquerees. Total combat noise you can sing along to, and your grandma too. "Coked out as hell, I'm your fucking dad!" 6). Gunter from Stonka Sound System and Frogs records. not to be confused with Gunter Saxenhammer!!! DJ (and producer?) of hardcore industrial techno. Read more on Last.fm.
