Basilica refers to three bands:
1. Basilica is a death metal band formed in Boone, North Carolina.
Starting in 2016 under the name Golgotha, the group consists of vocalist Reilly Appert, bassist Chandler Bell, guitarist Cameron Price, and drummer Brady Kennedy. The band became entwined with the fast-growing Boone metal/hardcore scene, known for their combination of heavy riffage, technical breakdowns, and virtuosic solos, which they have coined as "hair slam".
They signed to Innerstrength Records in April 2020 and released their self-titled debut album, Basilica, on February 5th, 2021. They have also recorded two EPs: Orbit Has Ceased from January 2018 and Weight from April 2019.
2. Basilica is Paul Kirkpatrick, also of UK grindcore act Phantom Limb Management, and Adelle Kirk, who was formerly vocalist with UK act Kirk and Kushty.
Their first release, 'Sins of the Flesh', comprised electronica, dark guitars and lush vocals in songs that are thematically linked by a fascination for death and murder. The lyrics mine the same uneasy territory as TWIN PEAKS, BLUE VELVET, and similar films, with twelve songs exploring the disturbed thinking of serial killers and their victims, with songs that incorporate elements of electronica, melodic rock, goth, and (less frequently) metal. The feel is somewhere between Bloodrock's infamous second album (the one with the seventies cult classic about an accident victim's terminal ambulance ride) and the Golden Palominos death-rock classic DEAD INSIDE, although musically and lyrically it's far closer to the latter. Strange, unsettling stuff..probably not heavy or straightforward for metalheads, but perfect for goth listeners in search of the latest creepfest.
Paul Kirkpatrick is also the chief contributor in dirty electronica act Glitch Code which also features Neon Zoo vocalist Rick Alexander.
Basilica are currently working on the new album "13th Station" and preparing to play some live dates later in the year to preview the new tracks. The album is due to be released early in 2007 and more dates around the UK and Europe are now being planned.
3. Basilica is also the name of an avant-garde grindcore band from Bloomington, Indiana. This is a virtuoso chamber music group that was founded in 2005 by composer Ben S. Jacob in order to create uniquely powerful and intimate musical experiences. The current instrumentation of amplified string instruments and percussion is the latest step in the evolution of a music that seeks to combine bold rhythms, incisive harmonies, broad yet angular melodies, and towering sonorities into an experience of relentless intensity, a raging discourse on the fundamental emotionality that is at the core of human existence. The team of classically trained musicians that has been assembled for this project is dedicated to the perfection of sound and spirit that yields performances and recordings of uncommon precision, power, and beauty.
In 2006, BASILICA began expansion into the realm of multi-media performance with the incorporation of interactive video projection during live performances. In addition to this new element, BASILICA continues its work in growth and refinement of its sonic enhancement techniques, expansion of the depth and duration of its live performances, international collaboration with composers and other artists, and production of high-quality, high-impact audio and video recordings and other media. Future endeavors include performances throughout North America, including appearances at experimental music festivals and other performance art events.
BASILICA is ultimately a team effort that is the confluence of the passions and talents of all of the unique individuals who are involved in the project. BASILICA is continually searching for performers, composers, sponsors, and artists of all media who are interested in collaborating with and contributing to the BASILICA project.
