1. ACME, initially written as アクメ, is a visual kei band formed in June 2017 in Japan. The band members include vocalist CHISA, guitarist SHOGO, bassist RIKITO, and drummer HAL. ACME is recognized for its intense musical style, blending visual kei with metalcore. The band initially described themselves as “delinquent boys from another world”. ACME was formed by former members of the visual kei band DIV, with CHISA and SHOGO collaborating alongside bassist RIKITO and drummer HAL, previously of ARTEMA. The band’s debut was officially announced on June 27, 2017, at NicoNico Headquarters in Tokyo, and their first mini-album, SENKOU, was released on August 2, 2017. Following this, the band toured Japan, but shortly after, RIKITO took a break due to health issues, returning in April 2018. During his absence, ACME continued as a trio, releasing the single “Rotten Orange” on March 7, 2018. That August, they released their first full album, Zesshououka. In February 2019, ACME performed in the United States for the first time at Anime Milwaukee in Wisconsin. Later that year, they performed at A-Kon in Dallas and held a show in California. ACME's first full U.S. tour took place in January 2020 with Canadian metalcore band Red Handed Denial, though plans for further tours were interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. ACME adapted by hosting livestreamed concerts and engaging fans through regular broadcasts on their YouTube channel. At the end of 2020, they changed the spelling of their name from アクメ to “ACME” to make the band more accessible to an international audience. In 2021, ACME released the single “Come Back to You” on March 29, their first track under the new English spelling. Produced by Grammy-nominated Seann Bowe, the song featured the first visual kei music video to cast a Black female lead, Katie Sachiko Scott. Later that year, the band embarked on the “UNBREAKABLE TOUR,” which included seven dates in Japan and four in the U.S., marking their return to in-person touring after 22 months. ACME continued their momentum in 2022, releasing the single “Enchanted” with a music video shot in Hollywood. They embarked on the “Wildfire” North American tour, visiting multiple U.S. cities and performing in Canada for the first time. The band also launched a radio show, “ACME STATION,” on SKYWAVE FM in Chiba in April and released their third studio album, Resisted Temptation, in November 2022, followed by a nine-city tour in Japan. In early 2023, ACME released “SENNOU” and performed at Anime Detour in Minnesota and in California. In August, they held a free concert in Shibuya in partnership with Tower Records, following the release of the double single “ULFHEĐNAR” / “Tasogare.” That November, they returned to the U.S. for the “Reborn as the Berserker” Tour, playing in Las Vegas, Portland, and Costa Mesa. The tour continued in Japan, concluding at Shibuya Cyclone in January 2024. ACME is scheduled to return to the U.S. to perform at Kawaii Kon in 2024. - 2. Acme, often stylized as AcMe, was a German hardcore and metalcore band based in Bremen, active from 1991 to 1995. Originally called New Deal, Acme consisted of vocalist Hannes Stang, guitarist Sven Seelkopf, bassist Sônke, and drummer Gregor Iwanoff. Emerging as a part of the Bremen hardcore scene, Acme drew inspiration from bands like Born Against and Rorschach, though their music featured an intense, distinct blend of hardcore, grindcore, powerviolence, and metal influences that made their sound notoriously hard to classify. Their lyrics incorporated themes such as narcissism, oppression, alienation, and misanthropy. Acme became a foundational influence in 1990s hardcore and metalcore despite their brief career. In 1993, Acme released their first demo tape, which was followed by an untitled 7-inch vinyl on Machination Records in 1994. The following year, Acme disbanded. After disbanding, Edison Recordings compiled and released the album ...To Reduce the Choir to One Soloist in 1996, a nine-track album featuring all of Acme’s recorded work. This compilation included their demo, the 7-inch, and three compilation tracks. Posthumously, their reputation within the hardcore community grew significantly. Acme’s unique blend of hardcore intensity with heavy, metallic riffs left a lasting impact on the genre, inspiring bands both in Germany and internationally. Their sound has been compared to a rawer, darker version of Converge, with subtle screamo elements that influenced a host of notable bands such as Orchid, Caliban and Shikari. Acme’s members went on to perform in other influential bands, including Systral, Mörser, and Carol, further contributing to what is now recognized as the Bremen hardcore sound. Acme’s ability to merge early hardcore elements with extreme metal, without excessive blast beats, made them pioneers in creating a genre-spanning style that became essential to the evolution of metalcore and hardcore in the 1990s. - 3.
