Son Seung-wan (Hangul: 손승완,  born 21 February 1994), known professionally as WENDY (Hangul: 웬디), is a singer and dancer from Seongbuk-dong, Seoul, South Korea. She is best known for being the main vocalist of girl group Red Velvet. She participated in S.M. Global Audition in 2012 and was recognized for her ability to play instruments such as piano, flute, guitar and saxophone, as well as her great vocal skills. Before debuting with Red Velvet, WENDY was introduced along with the song "Because I Love You" (Hangul: "슬픔 속에 그댈 지워야만 해") for the soundtrack of the Mnet drama Mimi. This release was part of S.M. Entertainment's S.M. Rookies pre-debut team project, where trainees get to have performance videos before their debut. She moved to Canada and USA to study in elementary until high school. In 2010, she submitted an online audition for Koreaboo's Global Auditions in 2011 with Cube Entertainment. Though she was not the final winner, she was one of fifteen finalists personally picked by Korean singer G.NA and Koreaboo from over 5,000 videos to continue to the final round in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. in 2018 she teamed up with John Legend for the song "Written in the Stars", as part of SM Station X 0. Her solo debut "Like Water - The 1st Mini Album" was released on the 5th April 2021, consisting of 5 songs, "Like Water" and "When This Rain Stops" as the title tracks, and "Why Can't You Love Me?", "The Road", and "Best Friend (feat.
