DESCRIPTION:
6 Track Mini LP Of Contemporary Jazz / Funk Soul With Hip Hop Flavas - The third album from Brainfeeder soul man Thundercat gets the coloured vinyl treatment.

His haziest, softest and most consistent set so far, his falsetto dulcets wrap around a whirlwind of styles that are tailor made for vinyl. Sloping and sliding into each other all the way, from the slippery wah-wah guitar disco of "Them Changes" to the Plantlife-style funk of "Lone Wolf & Club" to the trippy ambience of "That Moment", we're gradually moved slowly, softly and sweetly throughout.

Virtuoso bassist and singer-songwriter Stephen Bruner aka Thundercat returns to the Brainfeeder fold with his first solo material in two years, having already made outstanding contributions to not one, but two, of the greatest albums of 2015 - 'To Pimp a Butterfly' and 'The Epic' - by fellow Los Angelians Kendrick Lamar and Kamasi Washington.

Seven track mini-album 'The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam' picks up where 2013's 'Apocalypse' left off, with Thundercat joined on production duties by longtime sparring partner Flying Lotus for six spiralling excursions to the outer limits of jazz-funk. Featuring soaring choral vocals, and a touch of yacht-like sophistication (Steely Dan springs to mind), the EP is sublime from start to finish. The legendary Herbie Hancock pops up on keyboards on "Lone Wolf & Cub" and there are contributions from fellow Brainfeeder family members Kamasi Washington, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Mono/Poly on sax, strings and production respectively. Essential!

Last FM Information on Thundercat

Please note the information is done on a artist keyword match and data is provided by LastFM.
Stephen Lee Bruner, stage name Thundercat (b. October 19 1984, Los Angeles, CA, USA) is a virtuoso bassist, composer, producer and singer. Born into a family of musicians, he and his brother were part of legendary thrash punks Suicidal Tendencies (since 16 years of age) - Bruner has collaborated with many, including jams with Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller and Stanley Clarke. “I do believe that hip-hop can be the new jazz, and I’m helping create that”, Bruner said in an interview to Bass Player, in 2008. He is part of the new generation of jazz literate, hip-hop loving instrumentalists who can play beyond traditional limits - a mutant jazz cat - and that’s how 'Thundercat' (a monicker he chose), suits him well (even if it’s purely the result of an unhealthy cartoon addiction dating back to childhood).
