Ltd Edition Indie Only Coloured Vinyl Dark Downbeat Electronica / Ppop

"The model where men control everything, and there's a woman singing on top of music that men have produced, for men's gratification, is breaking down.” says Cicely Goulder. “It’s reinforced with children all the time, that girls should be doing specific roles. But it definitely is changing.” Kaleida, who write, record, mix and produce all their music themselves, are a part of that change.

The electropop duo met when Christina Wood, who had spent many years looking for a musical partner, was put in contact with Cicely by a friend. The creative chemistry was there from the start. “I feel like we intuitively get each other,” says Cicely, who was working in film music at the time but jumped at the chance to produce Christina’s vocal-led demos. Christina agrees. “We have a special chemistry that’s not something you find all the time.”

Tear The Roots, Kaleida’s debut LP, offers a deep, unsettling kind of pop.

Last FM Information on Kaleida

Formed in 2013 after meeting through a mutual friend over the Internet, London-based duo Kaleida -- aka Christina Wood (vocals) and Cicely Goulder (synths) -- quickly started to put together demos, which instantly received a great response from friends and fans alike. Inspired by iconic female vocalists such as Kate Bush, Björk, and Loretta Lynn as well as modern producers such as the Haxan Cloak and Helena Hauff, the duo's mix of breathy synth pop saw them sign to Lex Records for their debut EP, Think. Released in 2015, the EP featured the title track, which also appeared in the Keanu Reeves movie John Wick, raising the duo's profile considerably. That year also saw the pair head out on a European tour with Róisín Murphy. Returning to the studio to record more material, the resulting Detune EP appeared in 2016, while the duo focused on touring and recording what would become their debut album. The first single, Echo Saw You, appeared at the beginning of 2017 and was followed by a slow-burning cover of Nena's '80s classic 99 Luftballons. Their debut album, Tear the Roots, followed in September. Biography by Rich Wilson for ALLMUSIC Read more on Last.fm.
