DESCRIPTION:
4 Track EP OF Dark Tech & Minimal Techno & Ambient Soundscape Groove

Nathan fake returns, brandishing his saturation wand and some big ideas about compression ratios on his newest release and second for Ninja Tune, 'Sunder'.

Eschewing the crisp, calculated electronic excursions of 'Providence', Fake instead opts for a slight return to his grittier, more industrial offerings. We kick things off with the eponymous track, slowly growing from cavernous toms and crackling hi-hats into a saturated throng of propulsive activity, the confines of the relatively shallow sonic space being pushed to breaking point by the forceful crescendo.

'Arcaibh' takes things out of this headspace and into more cosmic realms, with slowly growing synth swirls subtly puntuated by the staggered kick drums. As we move slowly into the closing minutes, we get a hypnotic percussive redux, showing the layers of production talents required to make even the most sparse of moments sound just right.

Last FM Information on Nathan Fake

Please note the information is done on a artist keyword match and data is provided by LastFM.
Nathan Fake is a British electronic musician whose lush, moody recordings range from atmospheric tech-house to vivid, shoegaze-influenced downtempo. The pastoral psychedelia of his 2006 debut album, Drowning in a Sea of Love, struck a chord with both critics and fans, gaining the producer a loyal following. His subsequent releases have generally been more uptempo and maintain a sense of urgency and spontaneity. Fake often restricts himself to hardware-based equipment and records tracks in a single take. After releasing his most experimental work, 2017's Providence, his 2020 full-length Blizzards contained some of his most immediate, club-friendly material. Growing up in Norfolk and attending a school where being into music made you an outsider, Nathan Fake’s early interest in the electronic scene came from hearing acts like Aphex Twin and Orbital. Having begun to acquire and experiment with his own gear, an encounter with James Holden in 2003 led him to align with the then fledgling label Border Community, releasing his first material, the “Outhouse” single, that same year. The relationship with Holden’s label continued with further EP releases - “The Sky Was Pink” and “Silent Night” - leading to his breakthrough debut album “Drowning In A Sea Of Love”, released in 2006 to widespread praise from the likes of Pitchfork and the Guardian, and hailed as one of Mixmag’s top albums of that year. Fake recorded two further albums for the label - 2009’s “Hard Islands” and “Steam Days” in 2012 - before establishing his own label Cambria Instruments in 2014 alongside former Border Community associate Wesley Matsel. Their collaborative single "Black Drift / Bismuth” was followed by Fake's solo effort “Glaive” EP in 2015. Throughout this time he also took on a number of impressive and diverse remixes, from Radiohead to Jon Hopkins to Clark, working for labels such as Ninja Tune, Domino, Warp and Kompakt. Extensive touring has taken his sound across the globe, including notable tours with Orbital, Four Tet, Jon Hopkins & Clark. In September 2016 Nathan announced his signing to Ninja Tune with "DEGREELESSNESS / Now We Know” 12”, featuring NYC’s Prurient aka Vatican Shadow (Hospital Productions). This is the first music to be released from his forthcoming album for Ninja Tune, set for release in 2017. Read more on Last.fm.
